About a month ago, our neighbor asked if he could store his old truck in our barn for the winter.  With all the ACs around here, this 1971 C10 fits in pretty nice!  It's all original - original orange paint, straight 6 with a 3 on the tree.  If it had a 350 and some nicer wheels, I'd be happy to be cruising around in it!

That came from about 40 miles north of my place here!!  How did it get over there?

Hmmmmm. Once upon a time, before I was married, I had a 72 GMC. It was one sweet ride. Had a V8 350, automatic, blue and white, full trim. Unfortunately, one night (technically early morning), the auto pilot wasn't working when I decided to take a nap. Don't know for sure how many times it rolled. Buddy found me underneath of it. Consider myself lucky to be here. It had been my Grandpa's pickup, and I had wanted it since I was a little fella, and after he passed away, I waited in line to get it, as a cousin had first dibs on it. Got it after she was done with it. I think grandpa must of been watching over both of us, because I guess she had a pretty close call with it, too. Darrel

Nice. I had a new 71 GMC 2500 with a 402 and 4 on the floor. It was a work truck pulling a gooseneck trailer.  Still have the engine if you want to so a swap. Also still have the factory dash with the tach and gauges.

Calvin, trying to recall where the tach pulse came from? I remember some came from distributor. I had a 69 Chevelle, full gauge package, just don't recall where. Later HEI from the distributor. Brown wire if I recall correctly

Who knows where present day stuff is hooked up-might be the"Cloud".

Dad had a 72, all orange, first year for disc brakes.
His CB handle was Orange Crush, pickup and all AC Tractors/equipment.

I had one just like that and it looked that good, only my seat and door panels were black and it had a 307 and a 4 speed.

The guy's wife's family comes from your area.  It was her father that bought it.  The truck came to Ontario a few years back, but he just lost his former storage area for it.

I think everything on the dash today comes from the engine control unit since its already controlling the injection and spark timing from a cam shaft sensor and ground speed from the drive shaft sensor, then some also sense individual wheel speeds to detect spinning or sliding to give information to the anti skid system. It also senses the accelerator position to set the engine power.

The ECU on my '98 F150 goes into rev limiter mode at 95 mph. The ECU on my '15 Fiesta goes into rev limiter mode at 6500 engine RPM. I haven't detected it limiting the ground speed yet but I presume it does because 6500 RPM in 5th gear would be about 190 mph. I doubt it has the torque to stand that much wind load.

I hadda 70, 3 onna tree, with a later V8 motor, on it.  Was a great truck, but the linkage on the shifter was worn out, and sometimes you would get it in 2 gears, at once.  Many times I was seen, with a little ball peen hammer, smacking the gate, to get it to neutral.  Finally put a hurst toploader into it, and then the motor overheated, and I put another used one in it, but that was an oil drinker, so I ended up selling it.  Best truck chebby ever made, IMHO...Thumbs Up

My best buddy's dad had a 70 that color. It was a 3/4 ton camper special with all the bells & whistles and a big block 400 that had some work done to it.

One summer night I was riding shotgun when we pulled up to a stop light on Main street next to a friends Nova with a built small block. Well one thing led to another the light changed and they hit it hard. We were half a block from the intersection and almost a car length ahead of the Nova when the cop came around the corner behind us cherries blazon!

The Nova pulled over and we kept going. Since we were headed out of town any way we snuck out on back roads to his house. Nobody was home so we hopped in my dads truck (I had drove over in it) and headed back in town to see what happen with our friend.

We got to his house and the Nova was there, so far so good. We found out the cop gave him a good butt chewing but since he knew his uncle he only gave him a ticket for a bad taillight and not for drag racing, reckless driving and a plethora of other changes he would get it that Nova was seen in town doing even 1 mile over the speed limit.

Well we all agreed we really lucked out and our parents weren't any wiser. So back to my buddies where I stayed over night. Well the next morning we were RUDELY awakened. The officer had recognized the ORANGE pickup that belonged to HIS buddy, and the next morning he called and lowered the boom.

I wouldn't be storing it in there say good bye to the rockers and floor boards, at least line the floor with a layer of plastic and cover that with 3/4 inch ply wood

Mine was a 71 full time 4WD.  Had an auto and a 350.  Was a gas guzzler, but would go anywhere.  Mine was  green and white.  Gave it to my SIL and he turned it into a mud bogger.  Wish I had it back....

I had a red '72 with three on the tree and a 350. Bought it in '75 from a Pontiac dealer in Northern NY State. She was good on gas (18 MPG) but came with a lot of rust starting as it was from Northern Vermont and they hit the roads with lots of salt. I redid the rocker panels at least twice. My son learned to drive on that truck and that pretty much did her in. I remember trying to put on the tire chains to get out of a bad spot and they were pretty well ripped up. Asked my son if he knew why, well it seems he got stuck and used the tire chains for a tow chain but had no idea why they were ruined. Oh well, he did grow up. Bob@allisdowneast

Actually I had a few more - The aforementioned '71 /402, '72/402, '72/350, '74 454, 2- '75/ 454, '76/ 454, '78/350 4x4 . All 2500 and 3500's '75's and '76 were dualies. Gas was cheap! All pulled gooseneck trailers for our silo construction business. I think the one on the picture has the factory tach.

A buddy of mine had one just like that one except it was Red with a 427/400 Turbo combo he shoved in it. That was many years ago. I had it in my old shop wiring it up for him. Sheesh, that thing was crazy! Put yer' big toe into the throttle, and that thing would just blow the rear tires off of it. I don't know what gear ratio it had, but I know it was low, and I know it had a posi in it...

I was a poor kid drove a 73 Ford Courier to collage. But had this vision I have to have a Chevy(just knew Shameless would hunt me down 30 years before I knew there was Shameless). Stumbled across 75 half ton in 78 with low miles,350 4 speed GOOD truck,but no 4x4. Used it for 25 plus years. But when a neighbor was down sizing in the mid 90's he had 72 4x4 2500 with 350 auto a lot of miles butConfused. He had replaced engine but was tired again,but very good truck to haul fuel and check cows in the hills and brush.


Let the youngest drive it to school (EmoticonsLOLstill poor kids had to ride bus unless something special was being done at school) he managed to over rev it and blow it up. Couldn't figure out it was in low range 4 wheel on the pavement(why Winkdo we have kidsCry some days).Have another neighbor that builds engines so I got it going again, and transmission overhauled soon too. Out checking cows and flipped a small branch up and into the pan of transmission and had to have another repair on it. Was using it a little around the ranch until it started draining the battery if not used every day,but still used until the exhaust pipe all rusted off.

Now you all having me ready to start fixing again,has  10 to 20 thousand miles on engine and transmission. Just needs new wiring and exhaust replaced. Bunch of misfits getting me to think about fixing another thing around here that I don't really need.


Maybe there is someone more misfit than I that wants there teen years back now that they are rich and makes a offer I cannot refuse.
