Never fooled with them, but always been interested. Bees don't seem to be as common as they were when I was a kid.

I don't have any hives or equipment, but I'm an enthusiast, and will have a hive on my property this spring...

My son is. He currently has 3 hives, down from 10 last year. His F-I-L was a beekeeper with about 100 hives here in Beaver County PA.

We have 8-9 hives going this winter which is too many for us, we like maybe 4-5 hives. With this few hives I run a special winter top which helps with ventilation and keeps the moisture down. Our wintering success has been good with these covers, we found they can take the cold fine but not so with high moisture. Thanks.

Novice beekeeper with 3 hives. Have been up to 10 or so. But they do have problems getting through our northern winter temps.

JW we used to get queens out of southern Texas. But the last ones we got were too hot. I think they were crossed with the African strain. Bee careful down there.

I work in the bee industry. I make parts for beehives and our company also runs some hives for almond pollination. We have cut back to 800 hives currently. In 2009 we had a crew of 5 people running 2900. |

I wouldn't mind having a couple hives just for the pollination aspect in the fields and pasture.

If you would like to have bees find a bee club, sometimes there are members looking for a place to keep their bees.

At the Lathrop GOTO banquet there was a speaker that spoke about the bee industry, it was very interesting. Oh by the way Randy, there were some "B" keepers there as well.

Bees are attracted to lemon grass oil -- you might want to try putting some of that in your hives

When we first moved in 9 years ago there was an apple orchard down the road. Had they not removed the trees I was going to start a hive. Now it's just corn and beans all around me.

I have kept bees on and off since 1980. I now had around 25 hives last summer. I enjoy them a bunch.
