What speed did these run at on the PTO? If I recall, they were slightly faster or slower than the ag D15/II units . . . .
Thanx
Tim

Because of shuttle shift set-up.
Did not remember it being that fast so will pass on unit that showed up reasonably priced as although it would be nice with a 400 series loader I have, if I a can't hook the brush cutter to it I can't justify it . . . .

Tim I brush hog with my serries 2 d15 which has the industrial torque tube. I don't know how fast the pto actually is i thought it was 720 but that is just because I know that is a standard from the other side of the pond as they say. I keep the speed of the tractor at about 2/3 in first gear trying to brush hog out fields that haven't been cleared in about 7 years atleast. I have cleared about 50 acres in the last two years and it has worked well. I tried to run the baler on it in a pinch and the baler did not like it. Tedder was also something I couldn't find a ground speed and pto speed that worked for. But if you want to brush hog that doesn't scare me my brush hog seems ok with it and the shuttle clutch is very handy getting into those edges.

I remember reading somewhere that the higher speed was intended to get more speed out of a pto hydraulic pump.   I don't really understand that as all the d15 individual tractors I have seen have the front mounted hydraulic pump.

Thanks Dan, guess I am actually just justifying NOT buying another as ten units is enough, now that the recent 185 showed up.
Hard to quit sometimes and a number of projects to get to.
Have a buddy that runs a Kubota L-Series about 45hp and he has the 2-speed pto. Did not know till I showed him while we were both cutting his place and that old Service brand cutter gearbox could have fried eggs due to heat from running over an hour at 700+ speed. Still running but at the lower speed.
Who knows, if the I-600 is still around down the road, maybe she will follow me home . . .
What cutter are you using at the higher speed?

I think it was for running either a winch, or a power hammer option...

Here is my understanding of the PTO speeds on Power Director tractors vs Shuttle shift tractors. The clutch packs are the same. There is a set of gears ahead of the clutch pack
and one of those gears drives the PTO shaft. Low range on a PD tractor is about 40% slower than high range which is direct drive. The PTO drives off the low range gear. On a Shuttle tractor there is an extra gear to reverse the rotation of the low range side of the clutch pack and in doing so, does not have the same reduction ratio. Since one of those gears drives the PTO, the PTO rpm on a Shuttle tractor is somewhere around 800 rpm.

Calvin is spot-on. A shuttle (as on the 170, I600 is similar) is faster in reverse compared to forward. Parts shown

I have an actual brush hog brand brush hog. I haven't noticed the gear box getting hot at all but it is a very big gearbox for the jog if you ask me.   I think brush hog makes them tuff.
The repair manual shows the difference in the torque tube I remember there is a large gear on the main shaft that changes and one that drives off it but I don't remember the tooth counts. I haven't noticed the speed trying to change when I switched direction.

Another PTO thought. My H-3 crawler has a Shuttle and a PTO that runs standard 540 rpm
The rear PTO housing in unique to the H-3 and does not have provisions for the rock shaft like the D-15 and industrial variants. Since the H-3 has a D-15 power train, I'm wondering out loud if the H-3 PTO housing will work on an I60, I600 , 615. It will bolt up.

That is an interesting thought.   If there was a way to keep my shuttle clutch and have a 540 pto on my d15 I would be interested it would make the tractor much more useful.   First and foremost my d15 is a loader tractor so the shuttle clutch is a must it was why I built it.

There is an extra set of gears in the H-3 PTO housing to change the RPM. The two downsides to using that housing on a tractor are that you would not have lift arms and the PTO shaft would be higher than on the standard tractor housing.

Oh no lift would be a big problem for me it is my only running 3 point hitch tractor right now.   I debated getting a hydraulic motor for a 540 pto but it was too expensive to be worthwhile.   Guess I will leave it alone and limp along with it the way it is.   90% of the time I want it as a loader anyway.
