I use rotella hd trans and hydraulic fluid in my Wd. I believe when I changed it I remember having to drain the trans and rear end and hydro reservoirs. I think advice from this site. Just wondering if same for wd45?
Thanks in advance ![]() |

How you drain and fill the fluids are exactly the same on a WD and WD45. Oil type is also the same. Yes there are 3 compartments, but the rear 2 compartments are connect by a bearing and share fluid. You still should drain and fill separately though.

yep, the front reservoir is for the hydraulics and completely separate. For the rear you'll also need to open the drain under the PTO. It's the lowest point of the rear two compartments. If you happen to have an 8-point socket set, they work great to open those tight square drain plugs without rounding them off.
Don't forget to drop the final drive pan too and change that oil. Depending on who you talk to you can either. Both are probably fine. A - fill all compartments with high quality hydraulic fluid (like John Deere hytrans) B - fill the front hydraulic compartment with good hydraulic fluid, and the rear 2 compartments with 80-90 gear oil. |
