I know an 1 1/4" bar fit them but DON'T use too lift a really, really heavy thing with the bar....it'll bend...sigh....
I'm thinking it was to keep the latches 'rigid' to each other ??

someone WILL know for sure !

One of my D-14s has it, the other don't....

I believe it started with the early D-17's and maybe even very late WD-45's. It added side-to-side strength between the lift arms with heavy mounted plows.

I use the lift latches with bar in between them when using the AC SC #109 disc.  It helps with sway control and is easier on the arms when the disc is lifted.

Unfortunately, it can't be used when I hook up my SC #73 plow.  Then I have to use some individual lift latches on each arm.
