We had about 5 acres of corn that wouldn't fit in the bin last week ( the last 5 acres) and then we got busy cutting beans. We've had some wind over the last couple of days and this is how it looked from the seat. While dad was working on the beans today, I took off work to finish the 2016 corn crop. We do have a reel but it was laying flat, could only run in one direction and about .5 mph. A miserable day, but the corn is done for this year. the ol L3 ate lots of dirt today but made it through another corn harvest. It's as hard on the machine as it is for the feller in the seat. Hope harvest is going well for everyone.

Yep that's tough. Cuttin every which way green stem beans at 2 1/2mph is better but not much.

that's what my last 3 acres of corn field looked like last year when the wind went thru. I also tried to pick it up and did a few stalks of it. showed it to the crop insurance dude and they paid me for mine. the deer and turkeys got the rest of it. and they did clean it up pretty well!

Sorry you got hit with that dang wind, I was lucky my corn is still up after it hit here, but I'm going after the last of it today and put the old A Gleaner away. Hope you get enough to pay the fuel bill to get it in the bin with less than $3. corn.
3 WD45's with power steering,G,D15 fork lift,D19, W-Speed Patrol, "A" Gleaner with a 330 corn head,"66" combine,roto-baler, and lots of Snap Coupler implements to make them work for their keep.

The rest of the field was running about 185 bpa. Just guessing, I'd say I rescued maybe 85% or so. It was well worth an afternoon of aggravation. But still glad it was only 5 or so acres.

I had a small part of a field that was close to that bad. The Gleaner head did an excellent job of picking up even stalks that were fallen away from the combine. That surprised me that it could do that. It did great and that part of the field went down due to the variety (Microgen) while DeKalb stood great next to it. Anyhow even after that mess the Microgen yielded just as well as the DeKalb and Dekalb is no slouch.

Whew! I'm just an Okie that doesn't know anything about growing corn, but I'd declare that field un-harvestable! That's terrible!

As you can see in the picture, my previous pass on the left side of the head looks pretty clean. Not much fun bit I don't think I left much for the deer.

I had a field that looked worse than that after hurricane ike came through. I had a 4 row head and was constantly plugging. Rows ran north and south wind laid it down to east. I ran 3 rows at a time west to east. The 30" snoot would let the corn ride over it into the machine. The 15" outer snoot was too much and would pull the roots up and leave the ear on the ground. What the east side outer snoot would leave the west side "extra" row would get.
