New job for an old engine stand. |

I have a older engine stand that I don't like and don't use a lot. As I get older heavy lifting and my back are not as good as it used to be so the days of rolling front bolsters around have stopped. I have two front end bolsters to rebuild back to back so after I found myself moving a older engine stand out of the way as I was thinking about a better way to handle them the idea of just bolting the bolster to that p.o.s. stand and after 10 to15 mins of cutting and drilling holes here's my new way to work over them heavy bolsters. so what do you think?

That really looks good, Don.
I have seen pictures of a small floor jack welded to a pipe to go into the pipe receiver of an engine stand. Another pipe is welded to the lift of the jack to have a small cherry picker for removing an engine out of lawn mower or a golf car or? Edited by JoeO(CMO) - 20 Nov 2016 at 1:20pm |

That is a great idea! Does the height work out just right to take it out/ put it in the frame rails by chance, or do you still need to lift it up/ down?

Thanks guys. I will not use it to remove or install the unit off or back on the tractor, I will still use the hoist for that part of the job. It was nice to lower the main shaft in the housing. If you have had the fun job or removing and installing the main shaft in the tractor it's a pain in the rear working under the tractor with bolster still in place now all work is done from the top just roll it over and over just like rebuilding an engine on the stand.

How's that go, necessity is the mother of invention? Looks pretty darn slick. The next step is cleaning right? A fabbed up sheetmetal funnel under the bolster to catch the solvent and return it to a 3 gal benchtop parts washer attached to the stand and you have fast n easy way to wash all the crud out from inside.

I have come up with a new and better way to mount the all the bolsters on the same engine stand.
I'm going to build a mounting bracket that uses the side four bolt holes on both sides to hold front bolsters on, that will let one bracket to hold narrow, three bold and four bolts fronts all mount and rotate. Video? I will think about maybe doing one sometime, I'm not good at teaching school, look at the last one on oil pans. lol Brian I just use my handy dandy hot water high pressure washer and a five gal bucket with a 3/4" hole three inches down from the top to hold the grease in and let the water run out as I clean them out, works good just have to stop and let the water running out drain down sometimes, then just dump the grease out after draining the water out first. this will not work for oil but on that old heavy grease it's works OK.
