    Posted: 01 Nov 2016 at 8:24pm
Has anyone on here added a 3rd hydraulic remote to a 7040 ac or similar tractor. I've never needed a third remote but recently ran across a 12row John Deere 7200 planter with the vacuum setup. Will this tractor planter combination work? Does anyone have any experience running this setup? Do I need a third remote or should I look at a power beyond setup. I'm new to the hydraulics tinkering so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks folks.

I cant speak for a 7040 but I run a 7200 planter on my 8030 and it does just fine. Adding a remote is pretty simple.

Here is a picture of the 3 remote setup.

When you go to the junkyard to get parts take a picture before it is torn down.  The valves just stack on each other, so the one you are adding would go on the left side.  Make sure you get the 4 long 5/16 studs that hold the stack together.  You will need the valve, the plate that the cable connects to at the valve, remotes plus rubber and steel hoses, console handle and cable.  You can use parts from a 2 remote system, just get the longer handle, just the exception would be the long studs, those are 3 remote specific.  The sealing orings are standard hydraulic orings.  When you take the remote apart there are some Agco specific seals inside them.

Thanks a bunch guys. I figured adding on to that block could be done but wasn't sure what all it entailed. I'll start hunting for those parts now that I have a better idea of what's needed.

If you are lucky enough to find a donor tractor with the third valve already on it, great !! Chances are you won't, and you'll have to settle for just another remote valve, cable, couplers, etc from a tractor with two valves. Then, you'll have to modify an existing control lever to fit beside the PTO lever. All very doable, but will take some fabricating to complete.

IDK if the stack for a 7040 is the same as for a D17sIV; it may be similar.
Changed a 2-valve to 3-valve on mine.
Yes, as others have pointed out, you'll need the longer 5/16 "studs" (threaded both ends)
Don't substitute "redi-rod" or the like.
If I recall correctly, a typical valve in the stack is 1 1/2" thick.

On the stack that I had, there are small springs/poppet valves between the valves.
If yours has those, pay special attention to them.  They like to disappear ....kinda like Roger Welsh's experience with his WC transmission.

Only valves that will work are 7010 up thru 8550.
