OK,long story short, after 3 dayze I've found(hopefully) the culprit of 'Troy' NOT starting,The drive gear on the guv shaft and dist btm are chewed ! TONS of play and sharp, not like 'Paris' gear, no play and 'square' edged.
So according to the I&T ac-201 book, I should be able to pull the guv out without removing rad ? Has anyone done this ?? If I'm really, really careful, can I just 'borrow' one from 'Paris', install same as what I have? As long as I don't bump the crankshaft, timing will stay, right? OR..... could I just grind off the retaining pin on the good gear, and use a 'roll pin' to attach to the original guv assy on Troy? OR..... am I stuck, draining rad, removing it, etc... ANY help is really appreciated.... Jay |

Jay, believe governor assy can be removed intact. Just note where the rotor is pointing and reinstall. Would have some of those units if needed

quick update
There is NO way any 'normal' person can get teh guv assy out without removing hood support, grille, rad support ,rad hoses, and the rad...... AFTER that it's a 5 minute job...... Note to self... make some kind of extension hose to drain antifreeze(*4....)insted of it splattering all over the once clean floor.... At least it's warm and kinda sunny today... will post pics of what I found later..... Jay |

He's ALIVE ,again !!!!
Half naked Troy is now struting his stuff about the yard... Had neighbour rotate the PTO shaft and FINALLY found a 'sliver' of a 'TDC' mark, adjusted distributor, installed plugs, tightened up stuff, yada, yada, yada and he came back to life on the 2nd try, drives 'normal',peppy but the throttle needs adjusting under the gas tank(next time,I'll take more pictures....) Also tstat sticks, so I'll swap that from Paris. There's a few minor things to do hopefully get them done before the rain comes.... ..first I gotta eat something !! Jay |

hmm... The 'end cap' of the govenor( rad side, dome shaped with levers...) is DIFFERENT between my 2 D-14s....
Troy's unit ,the 'post' the arm rotates on , is SCREWED into the housing unlike the replacement unit where the post is kinda 'swaged' or press fitted' into the housing. Also the replacement has a black plastic 'pill' inside the spring that connects the 2 arms. I'm wondering if that is why Troy gos 'rrr, rump' when the going get tough...sounds neat ! Now this all works fine, just interesting to me. I also found out the gas tank support frame and battery box pieces are different... Jay |
