I jumped on the WD last night to grade the driveway. When I lifted the blade the pump was making some horrible noises. I have a big list of things to fix on this unit. Are the pumps servicable or would it be better to start looking for a suitable replacement?

The pumps can be rebuilt. There are o-rings and check valves consisting of a seat, ball and spring. Not much else to fix. My bypass spool broke a few years ago and I had to replace it(part from AGCO). Maybe your bypass spool is hanging up and not unloading. Could be just needs a cleaning.

Just a thought, did you return the hyd. lever to neutral after you lifted the blade, if not could be the pump running.

Jesse,
I've had two of them (WD/WD-45) where the noise was the result of a worn/broken cam follower(s) that also chewed up the cam shaft! If that is your problem, and the cam shaft is not too bad it's easy to fix. If the cam shaft is beyond use it's a big problem.
But, the noise can be lots of other things, too

How would the engine make noise only when I have an implement attached and the hydraulics in the up position? Not sure I understand what you are talking about.
I have the new engine on the stand almost ready to get rebuilt. That should take care of any problems there.

The hydraulic pump is four pistons, actuated by cam followers which are actuated by a cam shaft that runs from the engine clutch to the transmission. That's the cams and followers I am talking about. Not the the engine cam.

Lou, OK. I thought ya lost your marbles for a minute. I forgot about the cam followers in the pump. I heard cam and thought of the engine.

Is there somewhere that you can buy a kit to rebuild the pump? The pump on my 45 leaks in the raised position. Schematics would be great as well.
Thanks John

scroll down for a schematic. Agco still carries a kit, around 100.00. |
