Gleaner f combine broke hydro pump belt put on new belt used wrench to turn motor to put plate back on that runs unload drive, all back together now will only crank over 1/4 turn exactly that was starter issues but took starter off and with wrench only 1/4 forward or backwards. Before this ran fine moved around the yard let the oldest drive it around sounded good no smoke no nothing. Where should I start, I ordered owners manual but don’t even have it yet

Guessing need to take valve cover cover off see if all valves there?

Just weird it ran fine shut it off and now this🤦‍♂️

Thanks for help

Remove every belt from the front and back of the engine and determine if it still is only 1/4 turn or not before you do anything else.

Did you put a long bolt in somewhere that's sticking too far through?

I put it back with everything that came out….
So here is what im hoping for. Going along with what Dr Allis said   I didn’t look too close at belt when I put new one on old one broke so I’m hoping it’s something with the hydro pump and it burnt the belt off but that will be in the morning.

When it stops turning, is it a sudden (clunk) stop or kind of soft / cushioned?

Is it possible there is liquid in one (or more) of the cylinders causing hydro lock (cushioned stop)?

Update

All belts off besides fan belt. Still hits and it’s a hard hit using breaker bar on front crank
Took exhaust manifold off it’s dry
Took hose off intake it dry
Took valve cover off all valves appear to be in springs   Nothing appears goofy on push rods

Valves are moving at rear opposite end of fan and number 2 in quarter turn so don’t think cam.

Any ideas things to check I missed?

A loose bolt on the flywheel or something floating around in the bellhousing?

You may have a rear PTO bearing bad.

A hydro lock will pass when turned backwards 2 complete turns. That will push it into the intake so look for liquid then

Reminds me of 40+yrs ago. 6-71 Detroit running fine when parked. Next morning dead miss on one cylinder. Head of piston containing rings broke free of rest and was setting at the top. Firing every stroke kept it together and running till shut down. Some things just happen.

I am a firm believer in checking the easy things first.

I will go back to SteveM C/IL's question. Are you sure you didn't put a longer bolt in somewhere? It sure sounds like something that rotates is getting caught on something stationary. A long bolt sticking into the bellhousing would be my guess.
