Joe and others, I agree with you that there is good in most religions, a lot of good in some of them. And there are a lot of good people out there that are not religious at all and they do a lot of good for people. And people whom you think are very "religious" still do things that are wrong. However..........according to what I read in my Bible (KJV) and believe it is not religion or goodness that saves you but what Christ did on the cross and believing in His death, burial and resurrection. But don't take my word for it, read it for yourself starting with the gospel of John.

The few times I have had JW's stop by, I said I would like to discuss it with them, if they would just wait until I got my Bible (KJ). One occasion they did, and we had a good discussion, but they had no answers for my Scripture references I offered. Two other times I didn't have time to talk to them, but asked if they would give me a time and day that they would return, and I would be glad to talk to them. They didn't.
The bottom line is, as Hubert says, all I can go by is the Bible. I believe the Bible because there are plenty of self proofs in it to remove all doubt for me. When people say "good people", my question is, compared to what? The Bible says all men are sinners ('for all have sinned, and fallen short of the glory of God'). The Bible also says the qualification for entrance into heaven is perfection ('be ye therefor perfect, as your Father in heaven is perfect'). So I am a sinner, cannot possibly meet the demands for entrance into heaven, I have a problem. God, in his mercy gave me grace, in the form of His Son, Jesus. Jesus, born a man, lived a perfect life, and suffered the price for my sins, on the cross, all I need do is believe. 'For it is by grace that you have been saved, through faith, and that, not of yourself, it is a gift of God, not of good works, lest any man should boast'. Eph 2:8-9 It is true that part of that faith is seeking to walk the way of Christ, but that is not the means of my salvation, because I could never do it good enough. That, in a nut shell is the basis of my faith, FWIW The first two Scripture quotes, forgive me by my brain/memory is failing me now, I can get the references if anyone is interested |

I am still confident of this;
I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord. Ps 27 |

Not long after we were married, and in our first house, we started getting knocks on the doors. My wife doesn't like people appearing unannounced (like... they didn't call on the phone first)... so she asked if there was anything I could do about it. I won't identify any particular organization, but they were religous, and nice, but it was clearly a waste of their time to try to draw us in, as she teaches at a Catholic school... She saw one coming... it was a warmer day in early fall... football season, and her game was on. SHE is a college football fan, and drinks beer. I'll watch a game, but I'm not a sports nut, nor do I drink alcohol (I'm enough of an idiot)... but she saw them coming, and called me out of the shower... so I stepped out, soaking wet, grabbed my alley-cannon and picked up her beer... went over to the door, and opened it buck-naked-wet. I don't think anyone ever knocked on our door for evangelical reasons since then... I had a buddy in high school... he was Mormon... I don't recall which type, but he told me about his summer 'missionary' assignments, and knocking on doors was only one of several. He spent half of one summer building houses, and another replanting a forest... and another as a veterenary assistant somewhere. I thought all that was absolutely great, and the world would be a better place if our formative years included those kinds of things. Now, I DID ask him about having multiple wives, and his answer was dead serious, but absolutely perfect: "Hell NO! One will be BAD ENOUGH..." Another co-worker of mine became a JW several years after discharge from the USMC... and he was a very straight-laced guy, with never a discouraging word, until the one day we're boarding a plane for Vasteraas, Sweden, and I mentioned to him that I was up basically all night worried that I'd forget something silly like my passport... and his eyes got wide, and he said things that'd make a sailor blush... But I propose that 'rule of social discussion' should be to exlude Politics, Religion, and Chain Saws, as all three of these topics generate the same result...

Some years back, after a bad fire at work, a good friend of mine, received burns over a large part of his body and the word went out for blood donors. The Dr's at burn center said that he "might" have a chance with a blood transfusion but little to none without one. There was a line of people at ER waiting to donate when his wife told the Dr's that their religion did not permit him receiving any blood from others. I could not believe it,,! Gary passed the next day.

I cannot understand people putting their religion over the well being of their family...such as Joe said above. i'm sure they will be forgiven afterwards. I've seen parents letting their kids pass away because of something that could have been used to prevent it!

I had a friend of a Christianity-based religion that held similar belief set. My answer was that it was my understanding that Jesus gave his blood for all others, and it is my understanding that anyone who is Christian, by definition, has accepted it in spirit... it's clearly his intention that we're supposed to help others...

Do the Islam faith believe in Jesus? That he was crucified and died and risen again for our salvation and shed his blood for you and me... and for them...? Through the shedding of Jesus's blood... 1 Corinthians 11:23 For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: that the Lord Jesus, on the night He was betrayed, took bread, 24and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “This is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” 25. In
the same way, after supper He took the cup, saying, “This cup is the
new covenant in My blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in
remembrance of Me.”… John 14:6 Context3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. 4And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. 5Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? 6Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. 7If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him. 8Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us. 9Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father? |

Yeah,,and I've been told that some JW people that lived here did travel to Lubbock, Tx to get a procedure done on the wife, cause they did not want other people here to know they were getting it done. I'm glad they did and hope they had no regrets afterwards,,,,,,, I expect them are not the only'ist ones that do the same thing,,,,,
