I see some come up for sale occasionally, like the 545 models. How useful are they?
Reliable?

I know they aren't dozers, but can they do minor excavating or clearing?

Always been curious about them.

Yes can be used for many operations - just takes knowledge of how to do things .
Its like my AC 715B TLB would push more than my HD4 would when clearing up a field that had been used as a dumping grounds .
What one had to look for was things that would puncture tires or such but at same time tracks got hung up in old mattress springs or wire coils

Handy as a pocket on a shirt. If you get one you'll think you can't be without. I've cleaned waterways, cleared brush and taken out some good sized trees(2ft dia).Gotta use your head. 545B
