I finally got my D14 running. I drove it around just a little and drained the hydraulic and transmission oil. I know that on many applications the manufacturers have changed the recommendation from gear oil to hydraulic fluid. My D14 manual states I need 80W gear oil, but is this one of those applications where hydraulic fluid would be fine, or perhaps better? One downside I see, the runnier hyd fluid might seep past seals a little easier, but might work better in cold conditions. There is no question that hydraulic oil will go back in the hydraulic system. Thoughts?

If it weren't for the last minute, I wouldn't get anything done!

I use hyd oil in the trans and hyd system on all mine, WCs, WDs, WD45s, all the D series. I still use 80/90 in the final drives though.   Nice lookin D14 there!!!

Thanks-I think she will have a date with the power washer sometime soon, but she showed far too much promise to give up on her. I eventually will have more questions on paint scheme and decals. I am quite sure there wasn't any cream color yet when this was produced, but the decals look like what it came with. I was hoping it used the decal style with the  model number in an oval and on the side tins. I find it to be more attractive, but probably should aim for authentic when I get to it.
Thanks for the quick reply!

The transmission in my WD45 seems alot happier after switching to hy-trans so does my neighbors D14 & D17.

Here is a pic of the neighbor's D14 I did last year. Not painted correctly....but its painted the way the owner wanted it and it looks great. I thought it may give you a boost on getting started on yours. This is me driving it in it's first parade at Carson Park in Paducah, KY. It has been switched over to 28'' rear tires and has D15 creme colored "Allis-Chalmers" name plates instead of decals.

Well thank you very much....this tractor was a pretty fun project. I can't remember the serial # off hand but this one is a 1960. His dad bought it brand new.....its been happily retired for almost a year now. I am doing a D17 now for the same guy. I got it in quite a few pieces at the moment...lol.

Your D14 looks very nice in its work clothes. I see yours don't have power steering.
