I have a 1950 model C with rear galvanized rims. Does anyone know the history of these rims?

As far as I know all rear rims for B's, C's, Ca's , styled WC's , WD's and 45's were galvanized.

My understanding from an old mechanic I knew is if the tractors were shipped from the factory with tires they had galvanized rear rims. Supposedly many were shipped without tires and rims to dealers who preferred to use local suppliers to more easily meet costumers needs. Does that sound correct?

I knew they did that on implements alot, but I would think Tractors would have had wheels and tires from the factory in order to move them. I really doubt any dealers would have ordered tractors minus wheels and tires.

I read in one of the books that early B's had painted rear rims. Orange or black Bob

When one restores a tractor, do you get the
rims re-coated with hot dip galvanize?
Thermal zinc metal spray galvanize?
90% zinc primer-paint?
Or just paint them with aluminum color paint?

I have a powder coat shop nearby that media
blasts, thermal zinc sprays and then powder coats.
Clear top coat powder over the zinc is an
option. I bet that would last a long time.
They say they do this often for stuff near the coast.

Is real re-galvanize of rims heading towards la-la land?

You're probably thinking of the round spoked F&H wheels used on the early unstyled WC. The rims on all B's were separate of the wheel center and would have been galvanized. The rims on the spoked WC was all one piece so the rims would have been the same color as the spokes and the center.

I worked for a Ford Tractor dealer when I was much younger and they did get some of their tractors in without tires and rims. It wouldn't surprised me if other tractor companies would have done that also.
