    Posted: 07 Aug 2019 at 10:02pm
I’m rebuilding the head on my 230 gas engine. It had seals on it when I took it off but I can tell the head has had some work over the years. I’m struggling to find the seals to replace. Does anyone have any recommendations for seals? I assume the engine had them originally but perhaps I’m mistaken.

Valve stems are 11/32” (.3437”) and the valve guide boss is .562” in case someone is good at finding parts. I found some .341” stem size and tried those but being so tight I can’t seem to easily get them over the valve keeper groove for the valve to slide in.

I’ve installed new guides and fit the valves. Tomorrow I’ll be grinding the valve seats and aside from the seals everything will be good to go hopefully. Purchased the kit from Agkits. Seems like a good kit.

Just redid my head in the A2 and the head gasket kit came with the seals in it from ag kits. It’s supposed to come with them, if it didn’t call them and tell them, I’m sure it got missed in the packaging.

I just looked and you are correct there are seals in the gasket set. I must be losing it as I didn’t think it would come with them. It only has 6 and I called Agkits and they confirmed that’s how many it comes with but he couldn’t tell me if they are exhaust or intake seals. Did it only run 6? If so which do I install on? Thanks!

I believe I have some for an sbc so will see if I can check. I believe valve stem is 11/32” on sbc just not sure if guide diameter. I was thinking I could cut down the guide bosses and install newer style if not.
