Topic: Removal Radiator GuardPosted: 23 Aug 2014 at 7:58am |

Good morning , Does any one know how much the "Radiator Guard " (with the two cylindars that are used to lift and lower the blade on my HD11B attached ) weighs if all removed in one piece ? Blade disconected , of course . I am concidering doing so to make it possible to remove the radiator it-self for repair of damage caused by penetrations through the round holes in the front bof several tree limbs I didn't see coming .
As always --- many thanks , in advance , for your insite . Mac McGrail maccountry22640@yahoo.com

At a rough guess Mac, that lump of iron with the cylinders still attached would go somewhere around 1800 pound. I`ve lifted them off with the forkhoist a few times

Good afternoon Mactractor and other "Forum" people .
First --- Thank you for the estimate . I kind of figured about a ton . I've got an "Case" wheel loader that I think should be able to pick it up --- I hope . Going to try any way . If that doesn't work I'll just cuss a lot and try to figure a "Plan B " . I'm not sure that an old "F--t" like me should be trying it any way . Absolutely great having guys like you to draw on for information . What do you do for a living down there ? Do you work on heavy equipment for a living ? Mac McGrail maccountry22640@yahoo.com

If the blade is disconnected, why can't you rotate it forward on the big swivel pins? Or does yours not have the swivel pins at the bottom of the hardnose?

Andrew_D , Good morning Sir . Am I correct in assuming that what you suggest is as follows ----- remove the side and top air baffels which are bolted to the radiator , disconnect the hydrolic lines , remove the three "cap screws and high nuts" that tie the radiator guard to the front fenders , remove the hood , --- loosen the nuts ( but don't completely remove them ) on the mounting trunnion , remove the two ( front and rear ) closure plates on each side , remove the front bumper and pivot the large radiator guard forward ? I think thats a great idea . Have you done it before ? Even with the blade still on it should rotate far enough forward to get the radiator out --- if I understood what you suggest ? Please get back to me on this idea as I am starting on it today .
Thank you in advance. Mac McGrail maccountry22640@yahoo.com

I haven't done it before, Mac. Just looking at the service manual and the fact that my parts tractor had the rad guard laying forward when I picked it up.

That's exactly how you do it. On units with the front mounted hydraulic tank, you don't even need to disconnect the hydraulics lines, and could even use the tractor hydraulics to lower and raise the hard nose.
