Found a real nice D15 series 2. Three point hitch, gas , 1450 hours(on working tach) Stays in gear. Guy wants 3500 for it. Problem is it has a dead cylinder. Only running on three. Guy who has it did not even know. I took the spark plugs out and number 4 has no compression. Stuck valve? Guy still wants 3500 for it as is Tractor has been sitting for a number of years

My D14 had a dead cylinder when I got it. Turned out that a pushrod had gotten out from under the rocker arm.

If I had to guess, I would say that could be the original paint. I would go for it, good tires, good rims, good tin, good paint, and three point. If you drive it and it doesn't jump out of any gears and high/low works, go for it. I'm sure that the dead cylinder is something minor on the top end. Otherwise, ask him if you can take the valve cover off and take a look at things. You should easily see if it is a stuck valve or rocker arm/push rod issue. Man, that is one sweet looking D15. Don't tell my D15, but that's a beauty!!

That sure does look like a nice original tractor! The problem is likely something simple, and as others have posted it could easily be valve train related.

I saw a D-15 series II on a trailer in Hillsboro, OH today, don't know who it belonged to. It was at an auto parts store.

I see six bolt front hubs. If I am not wrong, that would be a late series 2.

I'd bet on a stuck valve and a bent push rod.....you can gamble and hand him the cash, or ask to pull the valve cover and hope he doesn't see an easy fix....
