I hadn't really followed this thread till now. It looks like you're doing a really nice job. It took me 2 years to do that to my WD45. They look so beautiful after spraying that first layer of orange on!

Thanks Dave and Chris.  It's been a long time.  I always manage to get side tracked with other projects.

Well after 3 days of cleaning, sand blasting and painting.  I was able to get the snap coupler, traction booster, starter, gear shift, and most of the right side back together.

You are doing a fantastic job on this. Wish I had the patience to do one that way. Always in a hurry to get done so I can use it again. Maybe the 57 WD45 I drug home this spring will get this kind of treatment.

Guys, Thanks so much for the comments.  

Dan I wouldn't feel so bad, these tractors seem so tough and well built that unless they're just grossly neglected for 20/30 years, they just keep running.  Hard to tear apart a running tractor!  My Dad's 190xt and D17 IV were the work horses of the farm when I was a kid.  Still running today.  I honestly just wanted to get this running and use it, but my projects always have a way of growing!!

Chris, you're going to have a fleet going pretty soon!

Joe, fired her up a few months ago and drove around the yard.  It was hard to park and tear it down, but had to be done with the front end freshly painted!  :)

Have a question.  On the lift lever in the pic.  Is there something that goes on the nipple which holds the pump lever in the locking positions?  Looks like something used to be attached there??  Thanks

There is a spring the goes under the lever to hold it up against the quadrant.  Over the years, many break or rust off (yours included).  I see DJs (forum sponsors) carries these springs.  I haven't needed any yet, but I plan on buying a couple next year.  AGCO might also carry it, but I never asked them yet.

Thanks dseries4. I do have that spring and it needs replaced. But the spring went on the underside of lever. This nipple fits into the plate above and i think that's the only thing that ocks the lever into position.

The nipple is just a piece of like 5/16 (total guess) or something little stud that was riveted to the lever that popped through the holes in the quadrant for the raise and lower. I still had the stud but it was really worn down so I just built it up a bit with a welder so that it would stay in those windows when selected.

Hello,  Very warm here in OK so I've been able to paint.  Working on the seat.  You can see in the first pic the top seat link the bushings fell out years ago and the rod was wearing on the link.  To fix it I used .875 OD/.75 ID tubing cut 3/8 long and welded them in.  (edit, make sure you put a 3/4 bar thru to keep the plugs in line.)

Nice weld repairs on the seat support! Good fix! Will be good for another 60 years maybe longer since it probably wont get the work that it did before!

Thanks Chris!

Nother update.  Redid the battery box by bending up a new base and then also the side bumper.  Cleaned up the box and spot welded it all together.  I had to assemble some of the tractor sheet metal to get the box lined up correctly.  Also finishing up the seat.

 Wondered how things were going. You have been busy! The battery box rebuild looks very good! Your down in the details and making good progress. Have a priority checklist and keep working on it. Some days are better than others. That seat frame rebuild looks awesome! I can see some parades or tractor shows in your future in 2017!

Kroil is a wonderful product that I have had good luck loosening stuck engines. I would remove the head, with no antifreeze, its possible head gasket issue. Great thing about the power crator engine is the fluid will settle in the piston and the rest will eventually slip past the rings into the oil pan. Limiting damage. My brothers 190xtd is a perfect example. Soaked in Kroil after we pulled the head, found water in cylinders 3,4. Poppped the starter out and a gentle bump with the crow bar on the flywheel broke her loose. She runs beautiful now. Just a blown head gasket, some TLC, and his cheap tractor is worth 3 times what he paid for it. D15 is an incrediable little tractor. Dad's has 2376  hours on it. I repainted it 4 years ago and it was a cherry then. He bought it new in '68. Good luck and so glad your fixing her up but please take your time, nothing worse than rushing and becoming frustrated.

Thanks gents.  I have the seat pads.  Next week will hopefully be wiring and gauges.

AC720 on that engine I believe the wrist pins were so seized I couldn't budge anything.  Hindsight I should have turned it upside down and soaked it for a while.

I had to soak mine upside down for a while as well.  The whole engine was a solid block of rust.

Got a few things done a couple weeks back and haven't had a chance to post. Seats on, gauges in and all hooked up and working, new wiring harness.

I bought a new voltage regulator.  It's 12 volt but it has an extra wire mount labeled "L" in addition to GEN, F and BAT.  Doesn't quite fit the original wiring harness.  But it seems to be working.  The GEN mount is on top now and I have to stretch the wire around to attach to it.  Are the L and GEN interchangeable?





Almost had a situation on the temp gauge.  The reducer in the head needs changed out as the aftermarket is different threads.  Mine was nearly welded in.  As my breaker bar snapped the hex head off the reducer I was thinking back to a year or so ago when I had the head off and I was telling my self to pull that reducer off.  Luckily some heat from my torch and welded rod I was able to take it out.
