 Topic: Freeman loader cylinder seals

Well after 53 years my seals have completely gone in my cylinders. Anyone know where I can find new seals? Here are some pictures that show the numbers. Also anyone know the procedure to replace them?

Some AGCO dealers may have them. I got mine from Tony Carbaugh on this site. They don't cost much, but make sure your rams are not too pitted or corroded or they will just chew up the new seals.

Hey Jeff what can we say , only 53 years and the seals crap out, musta been built by some Asian branch of AC . lol You should be able to go to a hydraulics place with the cylinder or some of its parts and they will determine your needs.

there is a local guy here in pa that can get almost any hyd seal but i think he would need to see them and i don't think he is on the web. his shop is called fluid power sealing

There are 3 ways to do job GOOD, FAST, CHEAP. YOU MAY CHOOSE 2. If its FAST & CHEAP it won't be GOOD, if it's GOOD & CHEAP it won't be FAST, and if its GOOD & FAST it won't be CHEAP!!!!

Most hydraulic seals are fairly standardized... What I do, is remove the retainers, pull the seals out 'carefully'... clean up the rod, cylinder, seal and retaining hardware, and carry it into my local hydraulic supply house, and they order in the appropriate seal type, material, and size for the application. Oftentimes there's more than one component to the seal, and frequently, the new seal type is actually made of more modern, and actually better... materials, and built using newer processes, for even better service.

If it is a ram (single action) and not a cylinder (double action) the V packing is leaking internally and needs replacing. The end cap has a exclusion seal or wiper seal which is installed with the lip facing out (opposite what normal seals are installed) . Remove the bolts , slide ram out of tube, on end should be piston with V packing and below that a packing base and a nut holding piston to shaft.

Use the genuine ac seals, t he v packing rings are AC part #72000650 (packing) it will make the job so easy, follow the link that was loaded by Charlie and you will fully understand how to fix your cylinders it has 80+ pictures. Pay attention to the pages on bleeding the seals and makes sure you put oil on those seals lips. Call me if you have any questions at 708-275-6820. Coke-in-MN is not correct on the cylinder, it does not have a nut on the bottom of the cylinder. Danny

Coke, there is no piston on the rod. It is a displacement type cylinder and just has a snap ring on the bottom of the rod to keep it from "leaving" the tube. The Gland that contains the packing also has a bronze guide bushing in it that will most likely need replaced or the packing won't last long.
