I don't know if there is a difference between the WD and WD45 rear axle gears, the gear ratio for the 45 diesel is higher than the gas version. To get about the same HP from the diesel it had to turn faster. You can also get the ring gear and pinion out of a D17 to turn a few more RPM's in your WD45.

Most WD's had spur gear transmissions so the top shaft which has the pinion gear for the differential is probably different. WD's with a curved shifter would have the same internals as a 45.
I wonder about the output shafts with final drive pinions, if they were different in the WD and 45. Also if there is a difference, what ratio is the final drive on WD's and 45's? Edited by CTuckerNWIL - 18 Feb 2012 at 9:10am |
