tester kept working irradically today so I don't trust it at all. I took it to a local machine shop to see if I could verify it's accuracy. A Viet Vet / tractor guy I never met before started querring me as to what I was working on. He said to throw away the tester and reinstall my injectors, get them bled and remove the plug on the air intake line and aerosol WD40 into it while cramking. He said it will run on that enough to get running on diesel, and after warming up it will cure it's apparent compression woes. Has anyone heard of such an approach? He seemed knowledgable and said to trust him?! Comments pease!

If its the one thats been setting awhile It sounds about right. If those cylinders are completely dry of oil there will be very little compression in my opinion. Once they get lubed up with heavy motor oil again it should come back If its not too wore out.

WD 40 is the best to use. It won't cause problems like starting fluid so should be a good way to try.

It sounds like good information to remember for such situations of dry cylinders.  25 years is a long time.  

I sure have enjoyed reading about your findings on the XT.  I sense your anticipation about this tractor.  I would be the same, maybe more...   I hope it fires right up for you and runs alright.  Please keep the posts coming.

If you have the injectors out already then why not spray a little lube into the cylinders and crank it over. This should wet everything down good before trying to start it up.

Have heard others say  to use wd40 as starting fluid, doesn't dry out cylinders like starting fluid and a less violent explossion. Just follow some of the advice in your other post and get some heat in the engine and try the wd40 and not when its sitting outside on a 10 degree day.
