Tach drive location on XT III

The tach drive on our 72 Series 3 xt is on the back of alt.,  I was suprised to find the tach cable going straight into the block on the 69. It seems like the small gears on the back of the alt are always stripping out, neither 200's or the 72 xt tach work. When did they go from driving the tach from the block to the back of the alt.

Leon, My 69 190XT is ran off of the alternator SN 24328. So if yours is also a 69 then it had to be in 1969

My serial # is 24749, and yes it has the older style tach.

Alot of balancers on 7010 and 7020 moved back wearing a hole in front cover. MACK
