 Topic: 1940 WC Radiator Curtain and Linkage

Wondering what the purpose of this curtain was and if anyone has one as well as the linkage for it. Mine is missing all the pcs. Also where is the best place to get a "close to original" radiator for the 40 WC.

You could close the curtain in cold weather and maintain heat in your motor, probably not crucial in Texas. There should be lots of radiators around since they produced more WC's than about anything else or you can get a new one. Should be able to find a curtain in most any salvage yard or e-bay, most are usually froze up and need some lube and tinkering.

If there is a picture with your post, I can't see it. What are you calling a curtain? Do you mean shutters or are you talking about the canvas curtain? Both served the same purpose, to get the engine up to proper working temperature for the fuel you were using. If you ran distillate in an all fuel tractor, you need 190 degrees while 170 is recommended minimum for gas. Early tractors did not have a thermostat so something was needed to regulate the engine temperature. Here is a WC with the curtain.

Id say im talking about the shutters. im not sure mine had one originally but i have the hole in the hood for the linkage. ive seen some pics of them but am trying to locate the whole assembly if possible.

The '49 WD I drove back on the farm eons ago had a hole for the shutters. I believe that dates back to the distillate days when you needed to close down the radiator to get the engine warm enough to burn the fuel.

Have a perfect operating set of radiator louvers that came off a '41 WC with the lever and spring, and it is not rusted up. $75.00 & you pay for the ride from Utah. Kip
