Topic: G Front Weight QuestionPosted: 13 Oct 2011 at 3:53pm |

I am aware that, over the years, there have been aftermarket Model G Front Weights available. About a month ago there was an auction on eBay for what was described as a "Reproduction Front Weight". I looked at the pictures and thought that it was a darn good reproduction but, at that time, my Front Weight was about 450 miles away at my father's farm.
Last weekend I moved that Model G (with Front Weight) from Indiana to my home in Georgia. Yesterday I took the weight off the tractor and compared it to the images in the eBay auction. Quite honestly, for the most part, I can't see any difference in these two items. The eBay weight might have a slightly rougher finish but that could just be wear.
I am going to try to post a couple of images of the "Reproduction" that was on eBay. I'd like forum members to point out what differentiates this "Reproduction" from an Allis-Chalmers Front Weight.
Scott

Scott, all of the reproductions I have seen were aluminum. I have not seen or heard of a cast iron reproduction of the G weight. HTH Tracy Martin

Tracy,
Great to hear from you! Hope all is well there in Tennessee!
I'm pretty sure there were some cast iron reproductions at the Gadsden G Roundup last year. They were good reproductions but my recollection is that weren't the ringer the eBay auction was. (If it really was a reproduction)
Best regards,
Scott

That's the auction my pictures came from. The thing that really is remarkable is the numbers cast towards the snout on the underside seem to be the same as my front weight.
Best regards,

Tracy, mine is a reproduction cast weight, Roger Van Camp had them done
only thing I saw different is the lack of the small hole for the "J" hooks to swing them at the assembly line ![]() |

Roger is the best. I will ask about them next time he is down. He is getting on up with age, but still gets around pretty good. Tracy Martin
