Thanks again for all the pointers on the coil issue I was having on my D14. Last night I replaced the points, condenser, along with a new internally resisted coil. It fired right up and purred like a kitten. Buttoned it all up, and went to pull it out of the pasture where it had died and low and behold the left front tire was flat. My son went and got my air tank and filled the tire enough that I could limp it back to my shop. The tube had a hole so we removed the entire wheel/tire and took it in to town to get it fixed. As I was getting ready to bolt it back on, I noticed the left side of the wide front seemed loose. That was an understatement!!! The two bolts that hold the left side of the wide front on were extremly loose!
I think I can safely say this is the first time I was GLAD I had a flat tire!! It make me shudder to think what might have happened - especially since I had just had the tractor out on the highway a couple days earlier buzzing into town to help a friend move a shed. If that front end had come competely loose at full throttle in 4 high, it wouldn't have been pretty!
Lesson learned. I need to periodically inspect these critical connections even on my tractor that hardly gets any use compared to others on this site!
