I picked up a Speed Jack attachment last year and thought that if anyone had one of these sitting around or would have seen one in use, it would be someone on this site.
It fits a B-series garden tractor, none of the guys currently active on SimpleTractors have used one of these. My problem is that mine didn't come with any tensioner pulleys, I have no manual for it and have tried to contact Cizek mfg but their phone is dead. I don't know what engages or disengages it. It would run off the left hand side of the bevel gear box but in the photo there is no visible tensioner. The BGB is a live PTO so with no tensioner, all I can figure is the rear lift may be used to tension the unit rearward. The previous owner hadn't used it since the 60's and couldn't recall how it was operated.

thats cool, wanted to let you know I bought a b10 with a sickle mower this week and a b210 or 212 dont know which yet with a tiller on monday, someone painted over the decals but by the hood it is a 210 or 212 but for 80.00 who cares, and I only gave 300 for the 10 with a working sickle , thought you would think they were cool

I am no expert but just going off the picture it looks like there is no need for a tensioner pulley. I suspect you are correct in assuming that the rear lift maintains tension on belt once the unit is installed. The text below the picture mentions a clutch installed on the tractor as part of the unit. It looks to me like something extra mounted on right hand side of rear end under seat in the photo-could be clutch assembly they refer to. I also have a JD210 L&G and I've seen on their collector website that they also have a unit for this purpose. It allows you to provide light PTO power where electricity may not be available primarily for things like elevators set up to fill older and/or remote barns either never set up for electric or lost electric for some other reason. You could run elevator or I suppose other equipment off PTO shaft or another belt pulley in place of an electric motor.

I have one of the simplicity built ones , that was later than yours. Also one that goes on a Bactold weed mower. I have seen MF, MM, & JD ones before. Looking a your picture I would think it could started and stopped with the implement lift handle. Neat find.

Hey dustinmo!, post pics of ur new finds!!! i love the yellow AC garden tractors!! i have a B12 that i have re-painted, and another B12 that is a friends of mines Grandpas. both are Hydro lift too!

I guess I may never know for sure. The unit is driven off the left hand side so any clutch would have to be mounted somewhere on the tractor but isn't visible in the picture. I'm going to visit the original owner sometime in the next week (he was the local AC dealer) and see if he ever had any literature or anything on it.

Dustin, was the B-10 with the sickle the one on CL in Illinois? Sounded like a great buy, I've stopped buying tractors for a while, and have actually sold a few, wanting to stick to the rare stuff now. I need to get out to auxvasse again and see your latest buys.

So are you saying that as long as the engine is running, that pulley on the left side is turning. The pamphlet says,
To engage and disengage Speed Jack clutch is used on the tractor.
I would have to think the clutch on the tractor is used to stop and start it and there is no tension pulley.

What diameter is the large pulley? Looks like it will run at the right speed.

There are used to run corn dump (elevator) and small stand by generators that use PTO's. There came on the market just at the end of ear corn storage and shelled corn was becoming the norm. Each year, at a local fall work day, one of our club members uses his JD 110 garden tractor with a PTO adapter, to run the corn dump into the corn crib. My youngest son has one on his garden tractor.

I bought my 917 at an auction and it had one with it. The 917 has a PTO clutch on it.

Yes, The gearbox is totally live. Whenever the engine is running the gearbox and pulley are turning. The foot clutch only disengages the belt running from the gearbox to rear axle on the right hand side, the Speed Jack is run off the left hand side. On the later tractors there is a cone clutch to allow you to disengage the left side of the gearbox, but their rear lift floats (via a cable) and couldn't apply downpressure to tighten unit.

If that was made for B series and the 300 & 400 , they had a solid rod connection instead of the later cable setup.
