about all the reground camshafts are 175 grinds . I would add another 3/4 to 1 inch more stroke than you suggested in your post . barney taylor has a good cam grind . I just sold my last crankshaft.

If you can double the cubic inches of the original engine you can compete with the "antique" tractor pullers around here. 400 cu in might need some more room to breath.
Like a fellow said, "If you gottta ask how much, you probably can't afford it." Don't let that stop you from experimenting and keep asking questions. You can have a lot of fun and learn new things every day too. Edited by CTuckerNWIL - 05 Jul 2011 at 7:37pm |

Yep, same here. simply amazing what these guys are doing to win pulls. I directly go head to head with a Farmall B with a 53hp motor, I beat him once, but the rest of the times he beats my B by 30 feet or more. I need a sign that read "This is a STOCK motor" and put it on my B.

Yep, I know of a couple LP burning Minnie Mo's running 150 dyno HP at original RPM. The cams are ground halfway in to so the rod can clear. The stroke is way longer and the pistons look like 3 pound coffee cans. From the outside, there's no way to tell they've been altered. |

CTucker: We had a fellow at Remington, In. Bob Gretencord, that was famous for making horse with those old Prairie Gold beasties. He had been a Moline dealer for years and sold a bunch of those double M's to the farmers south of Remington in that black hard pulling cement that they called dirt. Much the same kinda soil as was in Illinois around Paxton, Rantoul, and Hoopeston. Most of the one's that were strong were LP's. No one remembers for sure what he did, but there are a few clues. Blocks generally had different cranks from different motors, the jugs on top usually were replaced, and cylinder heads came from some magic place. I had a G-1000 LP that was one of his and from the factory was a 108 hp tractor. I pulled a 12' chisel plow with it and it would just get louder when I hit tough pulling, without missing a beat, never faltering. I put a new engine in my 1855 Oliver after it broke a camshaft out of a 1955. Dynoed 121 hp. I put that chisel on the 18 cause it had a nicer cab, went to the field dropped it in and immediately dug two holes. When I got a running start and dropped it slowly to keep traction the motor puked, period!!!! Half a morning of hooking up to find out in less than 15 minutes that the "ole minnie" WAS pretty stout. I still wish Bob was alive cause I want to build a WD to plow with!
