I am working on a running issue on a 1954 Allis Chalmers G tractor. Someone had actually wired the engine backwards, but it would run very nicely.

Today, after correcting the firing order and timing, the rebuilt engine is making a scraping-type noise coming from the crankcase area. At higher RPMs the noise seems to go away, but when idling it is very loud. The noise doesn't change when applying the clutch or moving the governor arm. It is isolated to a certain turn of the crankshaft. I can turn the crank nearly all the way around, but for about 1/8 of a turn in one spot, the engine makes the scraping noise. Just to help clarify, the noise started while running it, with it wired backwards. Someone working on it before me had the number one cylinder reversed.

I have built several car engines but never messed with any of these older Continental engines found on the G model. If this forum allows it, I will add a video of the noise later today. If not, I will add it to my YouTube channel and provide the link here.

Guys, I really appreciate you having patience with my ignorance. I am not the best at describing problems.

Again,
Thank you so much for any and all help.
John
