Hey folks -
'49 AC B, with PTO running a Wood L59 mower deck. Just replaced both bearings in the idler wheels and two spindles (left and right, center was replaced a few years ago). Now there is (or maybe there had been and I wasn't noticing it with ear muffs) a whine in the PTO when running the deck. No whine if I run the PTO with the belt off. Checked UTF - was low some, but filled it up, and no difference in whine. I can't tell if the whine is because of bearings on their way out, or the gear that drives the shaft is going to make noise because of how it's cut. Does a proper running setup make much noise? Also, watching a Youtube video, I see there's an oil tube that receives oil from the differential splashing it up in the PTO, so I suppose that tube could have dropped out. There is a little play in the shaft in and out. Edited by armorton - 20 hours 33 minutes ago at 4:46pm |

I would try listening to the PTO with a broomstick (or whatever, I usually use a BIG screwdriver just because it's handy). Try it with and without the belt installed, also the mower if you can access it safely.
