01 Suburban with 6.0 motor, mechanic tells me 13 .....is he anywhere close or should we say 10

My ‘95 Burb with the TBI 350, got 12-13 using 87 octane 10% ethanol, if I used 87 octane 0% ethanol, after about 3 tank fills, my mileage jumped to 13-14mpg, the last couple years I had that vehicle, I exclusively used 0% ethanol. Not so much for the mileage gain, but that truck would sometimes sit for 8-10 weeks, the pure gasoline seemed to start better.

Some states is No Ethanol Free ROAD Fuels.
As to a 6.0; Expect the Worst laud when does make better. 8,9 and even 10 are Probables, not defined Going to Make.

I avoid any ethanol or bio diesel. Poorer fuel mileage. Eats some seals and fuel lines. Corrosion problems

Internet (Google) states two mpg per 1500 or 2500 models
12 City, 15 Hwy~ 13 mph for 2001 1500 Suburban 6.0L
9.96 mpg average for 2001 2500 Suburban 6.0L.

I have a 2500 long box pickup that gets about 14 at 75mph highway. About 10 around the farm. A suburban should do a little better? My truck is a 2013 with the 6 speed auto.

2000 6.0 2500 Depends on rear ratio - 3:73 4x4 gets around 10 to 12 , pulling trailer 10 to 12 , with 8 ft camper and trailer 10 to 12 ,
Just bought a 2010 6.0 2500 but has a 3:08 rear and 6 speed trany so lower first 2 gears , 4x4 but no low range transfer case , has 4 high locked , 4 high with clutch - AWD type , or 2 WD - only thing is i learned this after buying but truck has 34,000 and is flex fuel also - Yet to see what MPG will be $11,000 for truck and $3500 for 8 1/2 boss plow

depends on a LOT!--- how do you drive? where do you drive? how fast? pull trailers? drive in a lot of wind? and on and on! you may be lucky to get 4 and possible 9. IF you drive light and sensible, no trailer use it could go a lot higher higher.

Suspect will not be seeing much better, Higher Gearing means engine will work all that much harder.

GM decided the low end is where gas mileage suffers - so the 2 extra low ranges in 6 speed trany - I would have never bought the truck I just did if I had researched further . No low range 4x4 and the 3:08 - So will have to see how it does if I put the camper onto it . the 86 -6.2 Diesel I had with 3:73 got great mileage either trailering or with camper on truck - Power though lacked with weight - then 4 speed manual trans . For snow plowing I could plow full accounts on 1 tank and just 1/4 of other tank - with same plow rout and 5.7 engine and 4:10 gears it took 2 + tanks of gas 2000 GMC 6.0 - 3:73 uses a lot of gas plowing -can't compare to old though as gave up most of plowing and only have a couple i still do

So I finally filled the tank after I was sure the tank was no longer leaking....and it held 35 gallons.
So the next time I went to fill it, I figured mathematically that the Suburban is getting 15 mpg

Not bad, for a Burb. Give it a couple more fill-ups, if possible use the same gas station, same pump, park same direction, and keep calculating every fill.

thats pretty good depending on HOW you drive.. Steady on a flat highway at 60 MPH is best... Going 80 MPH, or driving stop / go in town will kill it..
