Turnips have already sprouted in the other test field.
See previous BRILLION post. This field should do better. Some sections I just planted in turnips. Some sections I planted Winter wheat and turnips.. Another experiment My Goal is to attract deer but also put organic matter back into the soil next spring ... This field was prepped with 4000 lbs per acre of lime and 200 lbs per acre triple 18. And disc harrowed in. This field was plowed this spring and had an unsuccessful crop I am sure some kind fellas will explan my errors.... Enjoy the photos !!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Edited by Macon Rounds - 02 Aug 2023 at 11:26pm |

Is there a market for them? I see them advertised for landscapes here on occasion.

That's funny. I had a dump truck full of rocks we picked. Guy stopped and said "I got a place you can dump those". I said "The free ones are still out in the field!".

That picture brought back (bad) memories! We picked rocks by hand, then finished with silage forks. If it would stay on the fork, it had to be picked. I remember when we got the loader for the 180 and retired the old stone boat. They only had to be handled one time now.
As a teenager, rock picking always seemed to be the morning after partying the night before (drinking age was 18 then).
We had a neighbor that would come over to get stones (we had plenty!). He had no stones on his farm and used them in the bottom of ditches they drove through. |

My mother grew up in Holdingford Mn. We would visit once a year and as kids, my sister, brother and I would play on a huge rock pile out in the pasture. Mom said those were that they picked up when they were kids.

All the farms I worked on, there was no way rocks that size would be left in a field.
