If anyone could provide some assistance on protocol for starting fresh 301 diesel rebuild. What engine oil for break in? Protocol with rpms? Bleeding the injector pump? Priming the hydraulic pump? First oil change?
Thanks

For that one pour/squirt some oil in the hole before you install feed line. It holds a small amount in the bearings...excess will drain out.

Ideally, you would leave the injectors removed. Hand prime the injection pump until the primer shows resistance. Turn on the fuel shut-off knob. Crank the engine without injectors until oil pressure is made and fuel is squirting from the lines, using a battery charger. I would use 10W-30 diesel engine oil. Use the engine as you would normally use it. Working at full throttle is GOOOD ! Low idle time is baaad. If you've got no work to do?? Hook a loaded wagon behind it and go for a 20 mile drive in road gear at full throttle up and down hills which varies the load on the engine.
