Anyone know where I could find a replacement for the lift cylinder on a 415 loader that is on a D15? I bought this tractor 20+ years ago and the left side cylinder had a little bit of a bend in it. I don't use it much but I used it over the weekend to move some gravel and the cylinder is leaking a lot of oil when the bucket is raised even a little bit. Since the cylinder is somewhat bent I figured I would need to replace the whole thing.

It's probably only the shaft itself that's bent. I just had my tilt cylinders on my 500 series loader on my D17 rebuilt and they replaced both shafts and they are now back to like new. No leaks and smooth operation. Same shop did the lift rams on my WD loader a few years ago and replaced the shafts and seals. Was very reasonably priced, I thought. Money well spent as I was going through a lot of hydraulic fluid before rebuilding.

What kind of money are you talking about? I have some that would benefit from new shafts.

A good hydraulic shop could straighten out the shaft and put new seals in it. Good as new!

I have had mine re-chromed— don’t recommend it and had big $ involved. They leaked from the time I got them back and now the chrome plating is chipping off. I guess it all come down to the workmanship, in todays world, nobody wants to stand by a “repair” on 40 year old parts. Just my opinion.

If you keep it shedded, chrome isn't really needed, especially if you keep the rod retracted when not in use.

I made a complete set for a AC 500 loader . Ain't cheap and damn sure wasn't fun. If you go that route, probably will need your gland nut -guide bushing resized to a standard rod diameter. HTH Tracy

Rams rebuilt with new shafts and seals for the WD loader was $285 Can. in 2017. The cost for the rebuild of the 500 loader tilt cylinders was a lot more! $877 Can. Labor and material cost has gone up considerably. I didn't get an estimate on the second job--just told them to go ahead. If I had known what the price was going to be, I probably would have tried to find another set of cylinders. Oh well, I'll never have to rebuild them again as long as I own it!!

Check out what Surplus Center has, at time some real bargains. But of course you need to replace both not just one, it costs more.
