If you have a voltage regulator, you touch the BATTERY terminal to the GEN terminal for 1 second to get a spark, prior to starting tractor.

if you have the original 6v NEGATIVE ground, you jump a wire from the NEG battery cable ( terminal) to the "A" terminal on the generator.. for 1 second to get a spark.

In summary it is always the HOT battery terminal to the "A" generator terminal.

Mine must not be original.  It has a positive ground.
Thanks for any help.

Original 6 Volt systems ARE Positive (+) ground
If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.
Real pullers don't have speed limits.
If you can't make it GO... make it SHINY

my bad jpi.... I ment if you have POSITIVE GROUND, then you touch the NEGATIVE terminal ( hot) of the battery, to the "A" terminal on the Generator.. get a small spark... you do this before you start the tractor.

( your basically jumpering around the cutout).
