I've learned to adapt to every different kind of auction and their rules. In our area, you either adapt or not attend. The latest is the online small auctions. It has been almost a cost prohibitive adventure to have a small auction with all the expenses tied to having one that they now are trying online. I had my farm retirement auction in 2016 and learned first hand how much expense is involved. i wish i had waited an held it online where attendee's have 10days to bid. It also allows me to answer questions and be more front and center. Plus save me a bundle of cash. I lucked out and had a perfect day.

pretty sure ,later this spring/early summer.'someone' will decide I need to get rid of my 'oranges'..so I'll post on Kijiji (cdn version of CL) for a fair price. If it all doesn't sell, then 2 nearby Allismen will probably get it all for free. I don't need the money, prefer the equipment goes to a good farm(Gleaner A is already there....) then when 'someone' wants their garden tilled, I'll point to a hand shovel and say, go ahead..YOU retired me.

I'm liking on line auctions more all the time,especially those some distance away.If I don't get an item haven't driven a lot of miles to stand around all day for nothing.Plus when I get busy this time of year on the farm I can just make a maximum with an on line auction and let it go.

i've been using the on line auctions more lately, can sit at the kitchen table where i'm warm/cool, dry, nor walking in mud/slop, can even sits nekkid if i wants! depending on the auctions, usually it'll give you contact numbers for the sellers.

In person has drama. Yesterday's auction had an original Farmall Super A for sale. It had unknown running condition, but deceased owner was known for taking care of it. It has a freshly rebuilt starter motor. It leaked oil and fuel everywhere. Sloppy steering box. Muffler was rotted. Front tires were bald. Rear left was good, but rear right was worn down and very rotted with 1/8" cracks in tread into cords. Hood was incl, but not attached. It included front and rear wheel weights. I figured $600 plus $250 for weights based on prior auctions. It went for $2050!! Auctioneer staff said they were surprised at price. Luckily for buyer, at auction end it started, ran well, and only burned a little oil whenever it went under load. I am chalking it up to Covid cabin fever and Covid stimulus cash.
