 Topic: Pull type plows

I seen an ad for a 4 bottom hyd lift A.C. plow. Are these common? What is there value compared to snap coupler plows? Do they pull Any Different, harder or easier? Just never been around them and interested in learning Thanks for your time.

When I had my fuel business back in the1970's there were a few back then. Your traction booster doesn't work with a pulltype plow. Most were pulled with the AC A of the 1930-1940 vintage. A lot of WC's without hydraulics pulled 2 bottom pull type. One of my customers had a 4x18 he pulled with a 4020. He said he did not plow enough to justify a newer plow.

I'd say normally a pull-type plow would pull harder because it is farther away from the rear tires on the tractor, it is heavier, so it stays sucked in the ground better in tough spots, and as previously said, unless you had the Traction Booster Hitch, you'd lose the benefit of weight transfer. Mounted plows were popular because they cost less $$$$ to purchase and performed well hooked to the tractor. Also easier to back into a corner a drop the plow in the ground versus a pull plow.

only saw 1 around here, new D 17 with pull plow with traction booster hitch if I remember right. May be wrong on the hitch but I did drive it for about an hour when the neighbor got it new. I think I only saw one 3 bottom of the newer ones, lots of mounted and a few of the older steel wheel type. I have a 3 bottom on rubber but I think it is from the WD time period.

There are several different 4 bottom pull plows. A 4 bottom #2 with hydraulic lift would be quite the find. More likely it's a later 70,80 or 9000 series. I once had a series 70 4-16 pull type that had the traction booster hitch.

Oarngeborn, this plow looks just like "The Cute One" only it has solid mo-boards. It looks very good . Is there any value to it? Is there many around? I was ralsed around A.C.,s and never saw one before. Just curious to what everyone knows about it. Thanks!!

I have a plow like "the cute one", slat bottom and all. Pull it with a 6060, well weighted down and it's ALL it wants! Nice thing about pull type plow is - once you get them set right, they don't change like a mounted or semi-mounted!

I plowed some 20yr sod with it and a 180. Fluid in rears and weight on land wheel. Power OK but one area had to make sure it was down hill....
