With everything done to date, and all I have to purchase will still be under $65k in it. That is far less than any pickup I would buy to do the same function. As to resale, the few truckers I am around daily that know of it stated to let them know When Done so they can advertise it for me as there are literally HUNDREDS of Independents that are looking for said set up. May be willing to Bidding War it.

Got into trans today, started at bellhousing, replaced lever side shaft and bushings, easy peesy, then on to the rear seal and speedo sensor. Sensor was a brute by PB Blaster got it out, then that rear yoke, NOT Good.
Truck and I entered another Come to Jesus or GO to Jesus meeting that devolved into a Come or Bleed moment, I still won. Yoke was rust frozen to spline shaft, Speedo star wheel is as well but that will be a tomorrow event. Ended up with 4.5" cut off grinder wheels and then split the cut yoke with a chisel to get the puller to drag it off. Yoke is far cheaper than even buying just a Transmission Rear Section to replace that bad seal. Had it blazing hot with torch and flailed with 8# hammer with puller taut, NADA. Grease line was missing on Lever side shaft/bushings, is BACK ON Now. Edited by DMiller - 18 Dec 2021 at 3:22pm |

Got Speedo Star Wheel and Seal running surface removed this morning, cleaned up splines and rear seal housing then installed seal and housing back on, Will be ordering new star wheel as brutalized this one getting Unstuck from shaft. Then replaced forward drive shaft support bearing expected the worst but did that pretty easily. Parts list made up to call in tomorrow.

Grease line for clutch shaft is an option. KW and PETE always had the lines, cheaper trucks such as freight shaker or navicrap usually dont have lines, just the fittings which can be a bear to get to

This one had lines at one time
Still had right side and release bearing just left side fittings and all were gone. All good now as all will have new lines. I did replace bushings on R side and verified grease hose was clear. I used hand grease gun hose(5”) on Left side and have a longer lube gun hose for TO bearing(9”). Edited by DMiller - 21 Dec 2021 at 6:21am |

I have had those yokes fall off when you take the nut off. Others We have had to cut off like you did. Not really sure as to why as its not a tapered shaft or anything. All I can tell you some can be a bear to get off......

Been down same roads Don, this one seemed the worst I had ever experienced!!
Got down to Bidnes Yesterday and this far for today. All new cross shaft bushings, new clutch brake, new lever side shaft, rear seal replacement, speedo rotor and seal riding surface as well speedo impulse unit, new yoke and nut, new shift air lines and slip fittings for 5/32 air tubing off shifter, drive line support bearing and do have a replacement U-joint for at the trans end of that shaft will assemble later. Did while trans was out replace the Cab Air Ride control assembly, Trans back under chassis now back into engine work.

Got to work this morning, was letting the truck run and warm up, boss arrived where all was good except the rain. Was figuring a day of sand hauls in pouring showers until Noonish, boss asked if I could use a Day Off work on Home Stuff., did NOT have to ask twice!!
So wife was off, I came home for some Quality Time, IN THE SHOP!! Worked a short time where decided should do Something with her, so cleaned a bit went into town and did some small stuff shopping. Filled HER car with gas, came home and BACK into shop! Got a taste further, Bores are all shined up, deck has been pretty well cleaned up where will hit it again after set into truck. Set the engine upright and finished clean of Flywheel installed pilot bearing then clutch. My old 2" cut off Input still functional for this, changed it out from a 13 spd MANY MANY Sleeps ago either in 1983 or 84. Also did some paint where will be inaccessible once start hanging other stuff to it and be behind frame. Next up, reset front structure & gear Train, front seal package and damper, Paint up the Front and set the engine pretty well as see it. |

There is actually a Jack to install these under a Truck. We did not have those 30+ years ago when the 15.5" clutches came out.

Yes there is! Have borrowed one. Was picking up loaner tranny jack one time and they ask me if I wanted the clutch jack too. I didn't know there was such a thing. I've brought it home every time since.

Today was Busy Day, however cannot locate the New front seal I got with the kit ANYWHERE, sucks losing stuff. Not wasting time, will order another in morning. Have a Buttload of odds and ends needed to set the head once get that far.
Next up finish setting engine mounts, stab trans and bolt up, finish that re-install with Drive Line. Re-install Tool Box under Passenger door. Radiator is going out for a Replacement Core, once out did not really care for what it looks like. Edited by DMiller - 02 Jan 2022 at 5:12pm |
