Had a flat tire on the D-17 and the wheel (including all the  clamps) were in bad shape so I decided to fix up a new wheel. First thing was getting a set of clamps back in shape. Lots of hammering on the cam pin back and forth with lots of PB Blaster to get them all loosened up. Then, use lots of "Never-Seize" to keep them free for a few years hopefully.
I was able to salvage all the snap rings but one. I really lucked out here.......found a spring in my 50 odd year collection that happened to have the right diameter and wire size.
I was able to get five working well. I still have 9 left in this batch......one may still be salvageable and eight that are beyond "redemption".

hmm..looks like a good 'Winter project' already  1/2 done !!!
Reminds me I have 2 buckets full of D-14 clamps I'll have to 'relocate' from next door ,one day.... probably need a dang STRONG unmovable vise for that job...

Did 4 this summer. Tied a piece of wire and hung them in the burn barrel, cooked until the fire went out. Came apart real easy. These were in sad shape, calcium had them locked up good. Found more in the iron pile this weekend, they will get the same treatment.

We take the snap ring off and press the pin out. Usually comes out with a big bang, power wire brush,  some never sieze and you're good to go

I have 29 on the shelf all freed up and painted.
Most problems can be solved with the proper application of high explosives.

Dug 5 out of the scrap pile yesterday, one missing an eccentric. Four will get 'cooked' in the burn barrel and cleaned up, painted for future use.

I used Ted J method - put them in wood stove (remove blocks and snap rings first) for several hours and let them cool naturally.  Afterward they come apart easily with a little lube and hammer.

I found new 7/8" external snap ring retainers at Do It Best hardware stores.  The assembly cleans up nicely with large wire brush on angle grinder.

Well, I don't have that big a collection! LOL 
However, I did paint up four of them and mount them on my new $150 wheel. 
Now, I've got to put together another set to fit my other $150 wheel and I'll be in good shape.

I consider myself lucky in that I found just one coil spring in my 50 year collection that had the correct diameter and wire size......I'll get quite a few more "snap rings" at essentially no cost.

x2 on what Bob-Maine said. I clamp them in my vise, heat them with a MAP torch, apply lots of WD40, remove the retainer, put my trusty electric impact wrench to work trying to spin the eccentric pin, and drive on the back end of the pin with my equally trusty hammer. Rinse and repeat....usually a number of times. After a bit the pin starts to rotate and then comes out. After that it's clean up, paint and Never Seize!

I redid mine with no problem for my wd45, I did put some PB-blaster on them for the quick lube but they wasn’t stuck.
