417 loader /175/WD45 Questions

   Gathering information to make a decision:

Will a 417 loader fit a late 175?

The 1967 417 loader book I have shows it as fitting 170, D-17, and WD45. Is it a good fit or more loader than a WD45 should have, especially front axle assembly? 

How much more substantial for loader use is the axle from a wide front 170 vs an early 4 bolt WD 45 Wide front?  I can see the mounts are a much heavier, but I'm asking about the axle itself, spindles.

	Could be...if I found one with low hours at the right price that I was willing to take a chance on the transmission/rear end on. That's the best solution. Another alternative is that it could be an opportunity to take a narrow front 1949 WD that probably has less than 1000 hrs on it--but needs engine work-- swap engines with my 170 with the bad gears, add a hydraulic pump/tank to the front, put on power steering and the front axle from the 170, and see how that works with the 417 loader. Correct police hold your tongues: I'm function over originality, and don't view it any different than putting a Gleaner E engine in, or converting a WD to a speed patrol or forklift. I'm trying to figure out what all my options are before I start spending time and money again.

	417 or 517 loader should go right on any 170/175. The front axle structure on an old D-17 is a little better than a WD45 with 4-bolt front pivot plate. Series 3 and 4 D-17 structure is stronger yet. 170/175 is even more hefty. Spindles are pretty much the same. Any wide front should be fully narrow for max strength.
