Hey all,

Needing to swap water pumps on the 78 L2 with the 301 engine, and I was curious if a guy needed to put silicone on the steel gasket that seals the pump to the body

(gasket 74026887,  #10 on this page https://na.apb.agcocorp.com/p/gleaner/79012318/l/86? )

Or does a guy leave it dry?

Any input appreciated,
Thanks!

Gleaner: the properly engineered and built combine.

If you need parts for your Gleaner, we are parting out A's through L2's, so we may be able to help.

I'd use Permatex Waterpump gasket sealer. Better safe than sorry or have to redo it, again !!
Applied properly( clean and right amount) it'll HELP ensure you do the job ONCE.
if the tractor's USED on the farm, to me DOWNTIME is a 100% loss.

I know, maybe the steel gasket doesn't 'need' it BUT........
spending $10 ?? for a sure thing sounds like a good investment compared to $100s LOST having tractor in shop NOT in the fields.

Have never used any thing on one, never had one to leak. Have installed a lot over the years. Use some sealer if it makes you sleep better .           MACK

Many people use TOO MUCH sealer.  A very very thin amount of sealer is usually enough.

I have re used these gaskets a couple times when I had no choice and they did not leak after that, no sealer.  If you do use it I hope you are the guy that get to clean it all off when the pump has to come off the next time, it takes way too long to clean off compared to a paper gasket, the tin gasket is much less work to clean off than the paper ones that are used in other applications.
