not sure where to post this...please move if this isn't the right place.
I want to preface this with it's not for sale just yet, still have to talk it over with the family. here is what I know: I believe it's a 66 or 67. this tractor has been apart since I have been around (about 20 years) and by "apart" I mean the injectors have been pulled, radiator/grill shell off and a couple other misc. things pulled from it. it ran when parked (I know, I know ) and according to my father in law he claims it was down on power and thought it needed a camshaft. how he determined that is unclear. he said it always ran good, never did like to start easily if it was below 40*it seems there isn't a ton of info on the D17 Diesels. what i have found is people either love them, or hate them....no real in-between. from the intel i have gathered it seems like the engine was made from glass, and if you did something foolish, it was game over and they are hell to rebuild. it has been sitting under cover in a barn this whole time I would have to assume there is a bunch of "diesel only" parts, but not sure how much crosses over to a gasser. I don't know if there is a market for the parts or the machine as a whole. I also don't know if it's worth my time to part it out or cut it free "as-is" I will post some photos later today. any thoughts on how to go about getting this back in circulation? is it worth the effort or just call the scrapper? |

Things that make it worth more: #1. A wide front axle in good condition. #2. Good tires and rims that aren't calcium rotted. #3. FACTORY 3-point hitch in good condition. #4. Factory top link for the 3pt. #5. Four hydraulic outlets on the back. #6. Transmission that stays in gear. #7. Power Director clutch that stays engaged at full throttle. #8. A running engine that doesn't use oil.

You don't call the scrapper. It's worth more to an interested AC nut. It's not worth BIG dollars because it takes a small fortune to make one whole unless it's out of the norm. The only people interested in it to fix are those who just HAVE TO HAVE ONE. It makes no economic sense otherwise. There would be a lot of unknowns about condition of power train so value is less.....gear jumper,PD clutch etc. Personally I would consider swapping a 433 in it but that's not a cake walk either.

I agree 1000% just trying to gauge 1) interest and 2) value. I know there are lots of unknows, and personally I would view it as a parts tractor just for those reasons you mention. it's like when I do a car over...I call it "one-ah" because it will need one of everything. I can only speculate that my FIL would not have started a tear down if the rest of the machine wasn't worth it. anything that was questionable or too far gone got hauled into the back 40 and wouldn't have been stored inside some photos: ![]() ![]()
