Anyone put an electric fan behind the A/C condenser on a 8000 series tractor? Being over 100 degrees here in central Texas is hard to cool. Or should a working system never need that.

I'd add one, if only to try, that way YOU will KNOW if it works or not...... If you can put ,say 1' tall sides to create a bit of a chimmney to force he air away, that should help too.

I put 2 10 inch fans side by side on my 8050 this spring. Made a world of difference on mine rolling hay.

Before doing all of that, are you sure the radiator has all the sealing foam around the top, front bottom and sides?? Air must come thru the grille for the system to work properly. Also the radiator and hydraulic/trans cooler must be CLEAN for air to flow easily and the plastic fan shroud has to all be there and not broken up. Until this post, I've never heard of having to add extra cooling fans.

never saw a 8000 series that would run under 250 psi on hi side. Most 300 + Eat compressors and clutches . MACK

Seals around radiator are good and radiator and cooler clean along with condensor. 98 degree day stop and go baling temp keeps climbing. Aux fans took care of problem for me. Head pressure is running lower with fans also.

AP air has an add on condenser kit for the 8000 series. Says along with the original it lowers high side pressure and increases cooling.

If can maintain significant airflow across a condenser the pressures should decrease. We used box fans sitting in the shops long ago to lower head pressures while testing systems. Another consideration is making sure the influx of moist hot air is limited to the cabs so the evaporator is not trying to cool the entire world around the tractor, that any cab filtration is clear and that insulation is well in place.

Interesting. I must live farther north of the equator and haven't ever seen the need for this yet. I also wonder if the condenser was hanging straight down instead of angled if that wouldn't help some ??

I'm in central Illinois and most tractor work is in spring and fall so temps aren't that high but for 2 August summers I bat winged 30A for an uncle and stayed plenty cool in my 8070. Factory system converted to 134. Surprised to here of these problems. That fan moves a bunch of air.

I put new air filters in, washed out all condenser and radiator. Pressures are good just struggles when it's 104 out. Which it was all weekend. As soon as I spray water on the condenser it'll freeze you out. Just ordered a new door and window gasket set from Fehr. Scott I assume you put two fans that pull air since there's not much room in front of the condenser. Do you remember which fans you used?

Yes. 2 10inch fans that are pulling air. I still have the box and can post part number this evening.

I have an 8010 8050 and 8070. I have to admit that I don't ever remember actual temp hitting 104 but it does get in the upper 90's.
I pull a 13' disc mower with the 8050 and it will keep me comfortable at 95*. It got an engine rebuild along with new ac compressor, dryer and expansion valve about 10 years ago. I wanted to put a Sanden on it but dad was paying the bill and so we went with factory replacement. It also got the radiator recored and new foam kit from Fehr about 5 years ago. the 8010 pulls a 15' batwing and round baler. It got a Sanden compressor, hoses dryer and expansion valve about 3 years ago. I think it probably needs a new cab blower as it doesn't seem to have the volume the other two do, but it will keep me comfortable. Wednesday is supposed to be 97 here and I plan on clipping pastures. We will see how that works. The 8070 had a Sanden compressor when I got it. It doesn't do much in the summer but I have pulled tillage equipment with it at 90* and it cooled just fine. I like it to be around 250 lb head pressure on a 95* day. I'm no expert but one thing I cant stand is being hot in a cab. Good luck |

Unlike the usual excess of midwest humidity, the Texas heat could also be coupled with lower relative humidities.
For example, today’s forecast for humidity levels(RH) & temps (T) per my central IL versus your Katy, Texas during peak afternoon hours; Time. IL-T. IL-RH. TX-RH, TX-T 2pm. 81. 53. 50. 95 3pm. 81. 53. 46. 96 4pm. 82. 50. 43. 98 5pm. 82. 51. 43. 98 6pm. 81. 52. 43. 98 7pm. 79. 56. 48. 95 8pm. 76. 63. 59. 90 Not only are your TX air temperatures higher, but your relative humidities (hour by hour) are 3-5 % lower than here in central IL. Lower moisture in the outside air that’s being pulled thru the condenser will not cool as well as wetter air. Higher outdoor air humidity helps cool the compressed AC charged gas into a liquid form at the condenser better than drier air. |

Instead of an auxiliary fan, you may be better off to add a misting spray ahead of condenser??

out here in utah we have 100 degree days alot alot of upper 90s, we are very dry basicly no humidity , and i have struggled to get any brand of tractor to cool very good when changing them from r-12 as compared to tractors that came with 134 so i am listening to what you guys have to say

jes thinkin out loud... Every Ford I'e every owned had 'freezer cold' A/C, even the diehard Chevy guy next door ! says Ford's is the best. I'm wondering 1) what makes their system so good and 2) could it be adapted for a tractor cab ? have to ask do the trucks you guys drive 'down there' have better A/C than your tractors ?? If so...then there's something 'wrong' with the tractor A/C design or parts or setup.

Just a thought here but tractor cabs seem more like a greenhouse with all that glass than a vehicle. And those systems are really just designed to lower air temperature 20 degrees relative to ambient temperatures?

Well, YES! The heat energy required to handle that vapor is many times over that of dry air. |

well it was 132*F in my Ford the other day......according to the IR gun I use.. After getting rid of some of the hot air via open windows, then turned on AC to max, it got quite chilly after a few minutes(10-15). You guys in the deep south must have hotter cars....... just saying if car ac works , tractor ac should.

I think one of the biggest problems with cooling the 8000 series is the amount of glass. I see some guys put dark tint on there windows to help block the sun. Our car air conditioners work great. I especially like my air conditioned seats in my Ram truck. We generally have high humidity 65% and up. When it's bad we have the old 95/95. 95 degrees with 95 % humidity. It'll zap you quickly. Lately we are really dry so the humidity is better.

It was a joke. Maybe a Missouri thing. Everyone always says it’s the humidity, not the heat that is so miserable. I have a fair understanding of thermodynamics ;-) |

How fast were you driving? All that air moving over it takes a LOT of heat away, probably faster than most tractors at least. You have more insulating materials and dead space in your doors, firewall-dash, ceiling, floor than most tractors I suspect. You probably have a very controlled amount of outside air coming in, adding to the heat load, max does a recirculate, probably not on most tractors or wouldn't work that great anyway. Oh sure, the newest latest greatest tractors probably OK. Glass surface area ratio in a tractor and type of glass. Hydraulic/transmission hot oil circulating various places throughout/right next to the cab. Edited by Tbone95 - 14 Jul 2020 at 1:02pm |

I moved my condenser forward away from the radiator and added two electric fans several years ago when I converted to the sanden compressor Have not had an A/C issue since, other than normal maintenance / cleaning. I hope this info helps, good luck.

sitting in my driveway..... hard to believe a tractor cab on the move gets hotter than my parked, black pickup max does recirculate, unknown what tractors do,heck none of my D-14s have cabs ! reg cab Ford ,all black....it gets HOT I'm just wondering why tractors don't get cold....
