 Topic: WD high oil pressure engine

one of my WD tractor sat in the weather and got rain water in the engine oil pan. (more than 1 gallon when I drained it) I changed the oil and now the oil pressure is very high. I checked it with (2) 100 psi gage and it is 25 to 50 psi at idle. when I give it throttle it goes up as high as 100 psi. I took the valve cover off and it is getting good oil to the valve train. unknowing it sat all winter with the water /ice frozen in the oil pan. what would cause the high oil pressure? possibly the relief valve? Do I need to pull the oil pan to fix or can I fix it from the outside? I removed the relief valve plug and spring no oil came out while running. thank you and God bless Pat

try removing the valve itself,will be behind spring and plug.....should have had oil blowing out that hole when running....rusted stuck?

Did you remove the plug behind the spring? I would guess that it is rustic in place. MACK

so the valve should come out thru the hole. i have now sprayed PB BLASTER in. can I tap the valve in? or is it bottomed out?
The oil filter is bulging from the high pressure thanks for all your help Pat

Brass drift would be best but it's just a sleeve with a plugged end. Wouldn't get too violent but tapping in on it should free it I would think. Soak and tap,soak and tap. It slides in a hole in main web that has a relief hole intersecting it,dumping into pan.

I was able to fit a 1/2 cpvc elbow (OD with teflon tape is leakproof) into plug opening this acts as a resevoir to hold penetrating oil and let it soak. Its raining out now. You say the valve is a sleeve open on the outer or the inner end? I'm thinking of an easy out if its on the outer end. thanks Pat

Far end is solid and spring slides inside it if I remember correctly. If the pan was off you could probably tap against it's side through the relief hole...not certain about that but I wouldn't pull pan to find out. Anything you can do to rattle on it should get it loose I'd think. It's been several years since I had one in my hand. If you get it out and free'd up might want to spin engine over and flush oil out through there.
I dont think it's very thick wall.

I got the relief valve piston out. I was able to get the end of 3/8 tapered pipe tap to wedge inside the open end of valve piston. that gave me a handle to try to pull it out. after rocking and twisting it came out. After I got it out I ran the engine to see oil come out. the valve wasnt rusty but was stuck or wedged. I reassembled and started the engine and oil pressure is now 15 psi +/-. COMMENT I had 100 psi of oil pressure when the relief valve was stuck.

Glad you got it. Hope you didn't run it long at all with plunger out....no oil to cam and mains/rods.

IIRC, That valve's foremost function is to bypass to prevent excess pressure from blowing up the oil filter, and also probably from damaging the oil pump and it's drive.
If the filter was bulged, and you haven't replaced the filter, please do, as it will likely not last very long before disassembling itself.
