I bought a partial g last weekend. It has a narrow rear end. Does anyone know if the g came from the factory with a narrow rear end? Or was this a mod done later?

G's only came one way, ones that were narrowed or widened were done afterwards

G's were one of the most modified tractors, ever. I read a quote, somewhere, that they (the modifiers) would either make them 3 rows wide, or so narrow, that the tires would fill your pockets with dirt...

The G's were narrowed up around the midwest to sow wheat down a wide row of corn. My father talked a lot about this when they got away from horses they narrowed up there G to run down the wide row of corn sowing wheat with a single row drill. He also said it wasn't a fun job getting hit by the corn ears and leaves.

I will get a picture of it. I would really like to change it back to original. Would anyone be willing to trade axles or rolling chassis with me? Iij want to mow with it and I'm worried about stability on hilly ground.

The G did have two different length axle housings from the factory. The shorter version had a much lower amount manufactured. Still quite a few out there.

That appears to be a standard rear end. I have a 2nd g like that. I have been tracking down the parts I need. That's no easy task.

I put the pictures on so you could see the differences in the length of your shorter axle housings and my longer ones. I didn't know that you had one to compare yourself. Yours are like all the short factory axle housing I have seen.

I can relate to lbr'(Indiana) memory as we had two narrow, wheelless, walk behind, drills for sewing wheat between rows of corn. At that time most corn rows in central KS were 42". They were stored upstairs in our grainery; any use was before 1938. At a GOO in Lagrange, IN decades ago an enthusiast from southwest IN told me of narrowed Gs in his area; three small AC dealers had gone together and had a welder-machinist modify an estimated three dozen Gs primarily for this use. My narrow g measures about 33 inches hub to hub. My other g measures 48 inches hub hub to hub.

The g has a lot of adjustment on wheel spacing. My narrow g currently measures 38" center to center.
