Ed, thanks for that correction and your fine work. After seeing your post, I did some quick research and found out my serial number does place it as a Series I. For some reason, I thought from 1964 to 1967 they were Series I, but I realize that they can be very late 1967 Series I as well.
I guess to make matters worse, I screwed up when I originally dated the tractor and placed it as a 1968, when it is a late 1967. So, my forum handle is wrong now, but I am not going to change it! :-) I will correct it on my signature line. I learn something everyday on this forum. |

I agree with mikez, just have to buy a 68 now lol! The hood and fenders are very different from the series 1 to the series 2/3. All series 1 would have the bar grill originally too. Series 2 styling change did away with the bars. While the bars are removable, the placement of the AC logo is different on the non bar grills.

That is one solution to the problem, although expensive one at that. :-)
On the positive side, I have a crooked bar grill on my current 190XT now, so going with a Series II or after would at least allow me to avoid that expensive fix. I think they eliminated the bar grill with 1968 models, right? I do like the slant fenders but not sure when they got changed. |

The mighty One-Ninety was truly innovative, with the high deck, suspended clutch/brake pedals, huge rear mount fuel tank, tilt steering wheel and console control !! No one else came close to being as nice to operate as that tractor at that time in history.

I didn't drive one of these until 2016. I had been using a John Deere A and a Ford 841 until I got this tractor on my hobby farm. What a difference. I thought I had died and gone to heaven. My experience had to be the same for those farmers in the 60s when they traded in those smaller tractors for this one. Now that it has a new clutch and rebuilt injection pump along with some other minor fixes, I keep using it. I don't have time this winter to fix it up even more. Really want to paint and make it look good. The engine runs good but it needs rebuilt as it does use a lot of oil. Maybe next winter. I won't sell this tractor. It was also the beginning of the "orange fever" I acquired. I really, really like my 7010 too, but the 190xt was my first "allis" girlfriend. You know how that goes. :-)

the oil consumption could be the turbo. If the engine starts good when cold, the compression should be good, indicating the piston/rings/sleeves condition. For a limited use tractor, it will likely run a long time, just add oil lol!

Ed, It does not start good when cold. I don't believe the manifold pre-heater is working though, and that would help. It doesn't get hot when I touch it. That is on my list of things to fix this winter. When the temperature is around 32 degrees, it can take a very long time to get it started. This is one of the reasons why I had to install the engine block heater last year. As long as it has been plugged in for about an hour or more, it starts right up. Having said all of that, I am not sure about the turbo. The hours are listed at 4,773 so that is either 14,773 or someone replaced the tachometer at 4,773 hours ago. There is a lot of pedal wear and the drawbar has a lot of wear too. Could be 14,773 but if so, it is running good. My guess is that everything is kind of worn out except for the clutch and injection pump. I think based upon your comment, good chance this is a warn out engine. Oil is cheap and all this tractor does is run a hay rake, small square baler and rotary mower on about 60 acres of hay, so it is light use. I am still determined to fix it up like new though. I figure it will make it another 50 years or more once I am done, assuming my family takes care of it. I will check out the turbo and see what kind I have and see if it has been replaced. Any hints as to what I should look for on a worn out turbo?

When a turbo starts causing oil consumption, it is usually putting oil into the intake manifold. Take the air heater out and see if it's oily inside, you were gonna work on that anyway lol! The turbo can let oil out the exhaust side, but usually you see it slobbering out the pipe, and dripping all over the place.

After riding in the 7010, that cab on 190xt is like a tin can. I am torn on taking it off because I like being in the shade but it gets about 110 degrees in there during hay season. I have made many Impovements like a fan and stereo but I just can't make it good enough. As well, cab wasn't on the tractor originally and was not mounted correctly. The cab is cracking apart. So it will come off next year when I decide to paint it, and not go back on. I have 7010 for cold weather work too. I might change my mind if I can weld the cab somehow to keep it from cracking apart. |

That's a pretty pic Michael. Can't help on anything for fixing, MY newest is a 57 D-17. And I am learning about that one....I was born into a CA, WD and WD45.
You've also got more snow than we have too. We had a bunch back in Nov., but it all went south the first part of Dec. Stay warm and well and Happy New Year |

Thanks Ted. We had a bunch of snow last week so I snapped the picture then. It was shortly after I strung the lights. We haven't been getting much snow around Christmas lately, so just lucky timing. It is all gone and was in the 60s yesterday.
