Hello everyone! It's been a while...

I've recently acquired, or well, am in the process of getting, an Allis Chalmers B.
This will be tractor #2 for me, the first being a 1952 farmall cub.

I have a IH Mower deck under the cub, and a grader blade.

My question:

Will the mower deck be suitable for me to run under the B? I've seen photos of B tractors with decks that look very similar, and while I understand I may need to custom fab some brackets, overall, would the belly mower be able to work right under the B?

The cub is almost too small to do much heavy mowing with, which I knew buying it, and figure the B would make a better "bush hog" tractor than the cub, and I could simply leave the grader on the cub for shows... Unless the mower won't work under the B, in which case I guess I will go hunting a cheap 4 or 5 foot bushhog for the B.

Thanks in advance!

I think the cub PTO's run backwards, and also at a over-standard speed.  If its a mower wider than 42", you might be able to put a twist in the belt to reverse direction, fab up brackets, and change some pulleys around, but that's a lot of work...Wink

The belly mower on my B is a L59. The one on my Dad's cub lowboy is a 59. They turn in different directions. Belly mowers really aren't brush mowers. They are finish mowers. Although I have raised mine up and mowed some higher grass but I personally won't mow any brush.

mdm1,

So, the Cub mower discharges from the left instead of the right?
Interesting.
I have a several mower decks for the old Gravely walk behind tractors and
one of them turns CCW and therefor takes a totally different blade than the others.
My late brother had a 12 HP Bush Hog garden tractor years ago and it's mower turned in the opposite direction as well.

Brian I guess I never really paid attention to which side it discharges from as neither mower has the covers on the discharge shoots. But I know they both have model dedicated blades. On the woods mowers I believe they do have different spindles for left and right.

basically what MDM1 said, the Woods deck for AC is left hand, and a piss poor brush hog. I would think just about any single belt drive mower would be a poor brush hog. In any case I burnt too many rather expensive belts up trying to make a Woods belly mower under a B/C do brush hogging
I am still confident of this;

If you want a 'finish' mower, go ahead and remount it on your Allis. If you want a bush hog, go buy a pull behind. A belly mower will never do 1/3 of the work any bush hog type mower will do.
