How do you remove the pin from the steering shaft universal joint so you can slide the steering shaft back so that you can remove the engine? Instructions say to do that, but it looks like the pin has to be pressed or drilled out and it's really hard to get at. Thanks folks

I just took one out. Grind off any lip with a dremel. I was able to sneak a long punch around the governor and it tapped out pretty easily

Yep they can be from fairly easy to a bugger. I actually have to tink a little because its generally so painful I block it out of my mind!:)
One thing is to try both of them one may come out easier than the other. A solid support from under or  over is a big plus to help.  I may have used a air chisel with a small punch tip on one of them. Cant remember how I got it started?
Good luck! We need pictures?
By the way it is a lot easier with the right frame rail off! I forgot to do the steering u-joint assembly when the frame rail was off my WD45 this spring. I believe I used new roll pins ans lock wired them in place too.
Regards,
 Chris

remove bolt from shaft support and work around it. the  engine will have to be tipped  to left to get around shaft...very do able...I've never took shaft apart to pull engine on my 45...remove cotter pin behind spring on crank shaft through bolster...pull full fwd and clamp with vise grip...will give enough room to get flywheel out of clutch hsg

It is a taper pin so has to be punched out from the smaller end, just put a roll pin back in when done. Engine can be removed without doing this but may be a good time to pull the steering shaft anyway and build it up and/or rebush the quadrant and shaft support if there's a lot of wear. While you have it out remove the quadrant and replace the tension springs on the hyd/throttle levers, it's something you don't want to take apart twice.
