On my way back from Hutch I stayed in Milwaukee for the night. Had some time to kill so I checked out the former AC property. What a huge place! I wish I could have seen the place in its heyday. Greenfield Avenue is mainly retail stores out front. The offices still exist along 70th Ave. The bridge over Washington St. that once held the famous AC sign More pics in general... Part of the foundry I presume A pre-existing hole in the fence to get a closer look... The assembly building I am guessing... Other end of the same building that I could not fit in the above shot It's sad to see a once proud industry in this state of deterioration, but it's all too common in today's world. It is something to see anyway.

Several years ago when there was a GOTO south of there, there was a tractor caravan that went threw the old A.C. plant. Was a nice trip.

I was there this winter. I followed someone into that office building on the North end. There is some history of the place hanging on the walls inside, I only got one picture before a security guard found me and politely but firmly escorted me out.

The Chinese are probably now building equivalent size factories, with our assistance and the handover of our technologies. Oh wait, this level of expertise has already been given away. But then what's the difference, our people don't really want to work in these dirty factories anyway!!! Whatever happened to shop classes in high school? Whatever happened to our industrial base!!! Whatever happened to a society that spawned people who started great manufacturing companies like Allis instead of some internet entity with products that you can't use to turn the earth and plant something, just something that cellular idiots stare at and punch input with their thumbs. Oh wait, the next big investment opportunity is POT, something to further dumb us down and hamper our ability to compete on the world stage. ETC. ETC. I apologize, this rant belongs on facebook.

jeickman01 ,It's a good rant. It began when we were told this is the new normal "Get use to it". Fortunately things are changing and manufacturing is coming back due to good leadership. We are even opening up our steel plants. The only thing that will defeat us is if we give up. Stay positive and help bring industry back to the U.S.. It is turning around.
