Hi you guys. I haven't been here for a long time. I have a WD that I got about 12 years ago. That's when I found this site. You guys have been so helpful and I just liked reading your posts. I got my WD working great thanks to you guys. WELL I am back and found my log in so I am good to go. So I am here cuz I of course have an issue. My hand clutch barely clicks into gear. Runs good in first and second but I have to hold the hand clutch back to pull anything. I have the battery box and cover off the clutch area. Now I need to figure out the shims program on it. I will search for my info.

Remove 6 shims at each of three places and see how it snaps.

Thanks for replying. You guys know your stuff. Well I took the cover off and now I know the shims are at the three points where there are two bolts. The places where the outside case is bolted together. There are no shims.... That is bad news isn't it? Now do I have to break the tractor apart to get the whole clutch out?

I was looking at CTuckers great pics of his tractors and looked at his clutch pics. I see shims at the three points where the two bolts are. That is where I have no shims on my WD.

Welcome back! My guess is that you will have to split the tractor and put in new clutch plates and shims in the hand clutch. In a WD there should be 2 clutch plates. They are approx .100 inches thick when new. (At least thats the dimension, if they are the same as a WD45 3 plate clutch.)
Regards, Chris

Ya I think there are two plates. I am going to make a call tomorrow to see about the parts. Then I have to make the decision whether to attempt it myself or hire a guy here that does it? Never broke a tractor apart. These are so basic maybe I could do it. I saw one of the guys had a nice pictorial on how to brake one apart.

Man, you almost have to be missing a plate to not have any shims left, that thing is worn out. I bet the brass collar is shot too. New discs can be had on ebay and from a couple vendors on this site, I don't know if Rick Corder deals with the hand clutches. I saved the link to this old thread, the proper way to split and get the clutch out. Edited by Bill_MN - 15 May 2019 at 9:48pm |

Thanks much Bill. That is greatly appreciated. Great pics to go along with it. I live near Baudette. I heard that Nelson's in Thief River Falls sometimes has parts. I will look at the dealers on here too. Wondering what a complete rebuilt one costs? When you say don't forget the gasket do mean the one for the cover of the hand clutch? With no shims on mine that is why I was wondering where the shims were until I saw pics of where they are supposed to be. I have read that guys have gotten clutches from Rick. I will check him out too. Thanks again and any advise it appreciated.

How so I contact Rick Corder to see if he has a rebuilt clutch? The brass yoke has quite a bit of play where the hand clutch moves it too.

Rick Corder is his full name I forget his contact info, but you can probably do a member search here and send him a PM if he doesn't come along shortly. AaronSEIA

Hi Lon. Do you have the brass yoke piece? Mine had 1/4" of play in it. Not sure if that is too much or no big deal?
